Apple watch becomes a lifesaver once again. From time to time we get to read news on how the Apple Watch has notified it’s users of health issues and literally saved their lives. Though there are plenty of examples, the recent one is of 24-year old Mike Love who received notification from the watch on his heart’s unfit condition that saved him from dying at such a young age.

Now if you’re wondering how, well a normal heart beats 60 times a minute, but in May Mike Love began receiving notifications from his Watch by Apple informing him his heart rate was 130-140 beats a minute. This made Mike make a visit with the doctor and from the examination the result was shocking. Mike had a hole in his heart from childhood, which he was totally unaware of, including the upper lung which should pump into the left atrium was pumping into the right atrium. According to Love’s Cardiothoracic surgeon Professor Michael Wilson, this caused the blood circulation only through his lungs and not to the rest of the body.

Generally, an open-heart surgery would have been the recommendation to fix Mike’s heart, but the Doctor opted for the daVinci 3D robot technique and made a small incision to fix Mike’s heart. After 3 weeks of recovery, Mike is home with a healthy heart. If he had undergone an open-heart surgery, he would have had to 12 weeks to recover.

As for his Apple Watch, Mike says he’s going nowhere without it. In his words:

“I don’t think I’d live without one now. I love it for the convenience but also the fact it just picked up something medically that I had no idea about and it potentially saved my life.”
