Apple is set to reveal several major new and expanded retail stores before the end of the month. In addition to Apple Fifth Avenue’s reopening in New York City on September 20, Apple’s second store in Mexico, Apple Antara, will open on September 27 at 5 p.m. local time. In the Polanco district of Mexico City, Apple is putting the finishing touches on its second store in the country. Apple Antara is a significant outdoor pavilion at Antara Fashion Hall, a popular shopping center across the street from cultural hubs including Museo Jumex and Museo Soumaya....

Back in 2015, Apple was found to have infringed a chip efficiency patent belonging to the University of Wisconsin. The company was told at the time that it would have to pay damages that might amount to as much as $862M … Damages were subsequently reduced to $234M when it was ruled that Apple had not intentionally infringed the patent, but then increased to $506M because the company continued to do so after the verdict....

Apple has so far only said that the first Apple Silicon Macs will be launched by the end of the year, but a new report today says that they will be announced by November. The report also indicates Apple’s plans to differentiate the new iPad Air expected to be announced tomorrow from the much more expensive iPad Pro … Bloomberg carries the report, which is mostly a roundup of what we’re expecting from tomorrow’s event....

The Apple Store is down! We are expecting Apple to launch a new 10.5-inch iPad Pro and refreshed MacBooks later today at WWDC 2017; the event kicks off at 10 AM PT. Although WWDC is focused on software announcements, this year we are expecting a couple hardware surprises. Details about Apple’s upcoming video service continue to surface with The Hollywood Reporter reporting that Kristen Wiig will star in a comedy series distributed by Apple. Reese Witherspoon, who already has two upcoming shows through Apple, will produce the comedy show. Kristen Wiig has been involved with SNL off and on since 2005 and starred in the Ghostbusters reboot in 2016. Apple’s streaming video service should offer a handful of shows when it launches sometime in the future....

One of the tentpole features of iOS 13 is the new Photos app, which includes new curation features and interface changes that make it easier to surface your old pictures. Taking things a step further, Apple has partnered with the band Maroon 5 to promote the new Memories feature of the Photos app. As detailed by Billboard, when an iOS user goes to create a curated memory video in the Photos app, they’ll now be able to pick Maroon 5’s new song “Memories” as the soundtrack:...

Core Group, Apple’s official distributor in South Africa, just announced details for the launch date and pricing of Apple TV in the country. According to a statement by the company (via mybroadband.co.za), Apple TV will finally launch through select retailers starting Jan. 18. The launch follows Apple’s official opening of iTunes Store and iPhone 5 in South Africa alongside 50+ other countries last month. Core Group suggested Apple TV will retail for R1099 (roughly $125 USD) but also noted, “resellers are entirely free to determine the actual prices at which products will be sold....

Apple said the new solution was “built from the ground up,” and it covers the entire world. It features integration with Siri and turn-by-turn navigation with the ability to go multiple routes. With over a hundred million iCloud accounts now in use, Mountain Lion’s setup assistant will now ask you to set up an iCloud account for the Documents in the Cloud and Find My Mac features, as well as to sync contacts, email and chat messages and calendar entries. You can also access your iCloud storage in Finder and drag and drop documents for manual syncing between iOS apps that support Documents in the Cloud and their desktop counterparts....

With Apple’s online store updated after the iPhone X event today, the company has raised its AppleCare+ extended warranty pricing for all iPhone Plus models, while the iPhone X coverage is most expensive of all. Along with the exciting new hardware and features of the just announced iPhone 8/8 Plus and iPhone X comes more expensive repairs. And it looks like Apple is raising its AppleCare+ pricing to adjust for that....

Apps used by children – defined as any app “likely to be used by children,” even if they are not the target audience – must meet new UK privacy standards from today … The Children’s Code (more formerly known as the Age Appropriate Design Code) officially came into force last year, but developers and online service providers were allowed a grace period to bring their apps into compliance. Ever since the story broke in mid-July that Apple was looking to fund some original podcast series, the tech-community has had a lot of opinions about what this might mean for the future of podcasting. On recent episodes of The Talk Show and ATP, there was plenty of discussion about why Apple might be considering funding podcasts, and what it might be for the industry as a whole. I think it’s an interesting discussion to have, so I wanted to add my opinions on why I think Apple is funding original podcasts....

Ahead of CES, LG has revealed two new monitors with a couple of features that are bound to attract the attention of prosumers and gamers alike. First up is the 32-inch 32UD99 that offers HDR10 support and USB-C connectivity alongside an IPS 4K panel. With Apple discontinuing its Thunderbolt Display, LG’s latest creation is likely to be a notable alternative for Mac users. Apple’s longtime head of public relations Katie Cotton is set to retire. Cotton was with Apple for nearly 20 years and served as VP of Worldwide Corporate Communications directly under Tim Cook and Steve Jobs before him. There’s not much info surrounding the high-profile departure, but she is reportedly moving on to spend time with family. Apple and Cotton did provide the following statements to Recode: Cotton told the site the decision to leave Apple would be one of the hardest of her career: “This is hard for me,” she said....

Following up on the new version of iBooks, which was released this morning, with greater support in Asia and support for books from Japanese publishers, Apple has published a press release with some new details. Notably, Apple says that the iBooks application for iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch has been downloaded 130 million times worldwide. iBooks originally launched in early 2010 alongside the iPad and was brought to the iPhone and iPod touch later that year....

A day after Apple released tvOS 15.3 and HomePod 15.3 to the public, the company is now seeding the first beta of tvOS 15.4 and HomePod 15.4 to developers. Today’s build is 19L5409j. While anyone can enroll in the public beta test of Apple’s operating system, only selected developers can try HomePod’s beta software version. Even though, it’s important to notice that the current build is only available to developers now....

After providing developers with beta build 13F14 of the upcoming OS X Mavericks 10.9.5 last week, Apple today has released yet another build of the beta. Build 13F18 is available now and asks developers to focus on USB, USB Smart Cards, Safari, Graphics, Thunderbolt and Gatekeeper integration with 10.9.5. Apple also reminded developers and testers of recent app signing changes for Gatekeeper: Signatures created with OS X version 10.8.5 or earlier (“v1 signatures”) are obsoleted and will no longer be recognized by Gatekeeper....

Apple has long offered the ability for customers to purchase gift cards online and instantly send them to people via email. The company, however, appears to have recently removed the option from its website in the United States. Oddly enough, the email delivery method is still available in other countries. At this point, it’s unclear why Apple has removed the email gift card feature in the United States. It could very well be a mistake, but the company has not yet commented on the change....

As is tradition, the Apple Store has gone down ahead of the Apple event later today suggesting that new hardware is on the way. The “California Streamin’” Apple event kicks off at 10 AM Pacific Time. We are almost certainly going to see Apple unveil the new iPhone 13, iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max. A new Apple Watch is also expected featuring a chassis redesign, most likely called Apple Watch Series 7....

Apple will be hosting at least two exclusive events at its retail stores to celebrate Global Accessibility Awareness Day tomorrow. These include one with Paralympian Scout Bassett and Nike+ Head Coach Chris Bennett and another with activist Andrea Dalzell. Apple’s Chicago flagship store on Michigan Avenue will be hosting Perspectives: Scout Bassett x Coach Bennett tomorrow from 12PM-1PM local time. Apple notes that Bassett won her first international competition medal last year at the World Championships in London....
