In the latest edition of the Power On newsletter, Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman reports that Apple has lost another manager from its Project Titan self-driving car team. This is only the latest departure in what has been a revolving door environment for Apple. According to Gurman, Joe Bass, who was the head of software engineering program management for Apple’s car team has recently left the company after seven years. Bass confirmed this change on in his LinkedIn page....

Apple has added some additional information to the Developer Portal’s maintenance page stating that memberships that were supposed to expire during the unexpectedly-long downtime have been extended to accommodate for the issue and apps will remain on the store until the portal is available again and developers can properly renew their accounts: Update: Developers with memberships set to expire while the portal is down have received emails stating they have received a one week extension....

Ahead of Apple’s services event tomorrow, CNET is out with an interesting look at how Apple services push will affect its relationship with developers and competitors. The report dives into the pushback Apple is facing for its 30 percent cut of App Store sales, and more. As the report notes, Apple’s push into services comes as it is currently facing a pair of antitrust complaints. Earlier this month, Spotify filed an antitrust complaint with the European Commission alleging that Apple isn’t “playing fair” when it comes to the App Store....

App developer and former Pinterest engineer Kosta Eleftheriou became well known after exposing multiple issues with Apple’s App Store, including million-dollar scams by sketchy developers. Eleftheriou filed a lawsuit against Apple last year, but now the developer and company have reached an agreement to settle the lawsuit. Apple today showed a trailer for its upcoming drama thriller See featuring Jason Momoa. The show plot revolves around what would it be like if the human race was blind. This is the sixth trailer for Apple TV+’s lineup shows. Apple also said that its trailers to date had been viewed over 100 million times. Apple TV+ will start airing on November 1 in the Apple TV app, with more content added every month....

First noted by iGen.FR, Apple has slightly raised the prices of the iPhone 5s and 5c in France. As shown above, the increase ranges between €10 for the 16 GB model, €12 for the 32 GB model and €18 for the 64 GB model. In terms of dollar value, when converted, these changes are equivalent to a rise of about $13 – $25. The same price increase applies to the 5c, again dependent on capacity, going from €599 to €609 for the 16 GB model and from €699 to €711 for the 32 GB variant....

Following the launch of OS X Lion, Apple has begun updating its Mac keyboards with new Lion-specific controls. Specifically, the new MacBook Air sports dedicated Mission Control and Launchpad keys instead of the previous model’s Expose and Dashboard shortcut buttons. Now, as shown in images from iSpazio, Apple has begun swapping out the Expose and Dashboard keys with these Mission Control and Launchpad keys on their standalone keyboards. The keyboard, pictured above, is Apple’s wired keyboard, but it makes sense that these new controls will move over to the wireless version of the keyboard, too....

Apple has started sending out emails to members of the AppleSeed beta testing program informing them of ongoing maintenance to iCloud Drive. According to the message, due to the in-development nature of the updated iCloud backend, users should expect to see more downtime than they experienced with older versions of OS X. Unlike the developer previews, however, Apple notes that these outages are not likely affect files stored in iCloud. Twice previously the company has wiped all data uploaded to iCloud Drive....

Slice Intelligence, which monitors purchase receipts in the email inboxes of a panel of two million online shoppers, has published a chart showing that the majority of Apple Watch orders were placed on the first day of pre-orders, and have since fallen to far smaller numbers than some analysts have predicted. Quartz tech editor Dan Frommer notes that while the company’s data shows that almost 1.5 million U.S. orders were placed on day one (up from its initial estimate of one million), subsequent orders have typically been running at under 30,000 per day – compared to the 100,000 per day globally needed to meet some predictions … It could even be said that Apple Watch sales fell dramatically after the first hour, a separate chart posted by the company on its own website showing that 800,000 orders – more than half of the first day’s total – were placed within an hour of online presales opening....

But now, according to a variety of internet reports, Apple’s month of misadventure continues as iCloud is currently experiencing an outage of some kind. Most notably, it seems as if many are being prompted over and over to enter their iCloud credentials within iOS....

Apple may be battling one branch of U.S. law enforcement on a terrorist-related issue, but CNN reports that the company is working closely with another on a broader fight against ISIS. Apple is one of six leading tech and media companies offering assistance to the Department of Justice in countering ISIS messaging and posts on social media. In all, nearly 50 companies and community groups participated, along with the National Security Council, the State Department and the British Embassy....

Aquaman gets the How It Should Have Ended Treatment, and it includes a surprise twist with Batman becoming the king of Atlantis instead of Arthur Curry. The first and only DCEU movie to come out last year, the James Wan-directed flick marked Warner Bros.’ return to the superhero film arena after taking more than a year hiatus following Zack Snyder’s Justice League. Denise Young Smith is leaving Apple at the end of the year, TechCrunch has reported. Young Smith currently serves as Apple’s first VP of Inclusion and Diversity, a position created for her after Deidre O’Brien took over general HR duties. Denise Young Smith started her role as head of human resources back in 2014, then Deirdre O’Brien took HR responsibilities as part of her new role of VP of People in September....

Apple has launched a replacement program for the USB-C cable that came bundled with 2015 Retina MacBook units, finding that some cables were faulty. Bad cables would result in the MacBook not charging, or charging unreliably when connected to a power adapter. From Apple’s help site, affected customers can order a free replacement USB-C cable. Retina MacBook owners who provided a mailing address at product registration will be shipped a new cable automatically by the end of February … If you did not provide this information when buying the MacBook, visit Apple’s site to order a replacement cable instead …...

Apple has today shared that it will be attending the 32nd Conference on Neural Information Processing Systems (NeurIPS). Apple will have members of its ML team at a booth and notes it has many open positions as it works to build “a team of exceptional researchers and engineers.” Apple announced the news on its Machine Learning Journal website today, encouraging attendees to stop by its table. Notably, the announcement highlights that it’s looking to fill a variety of machine learning positions, 137 of them to be exact....

The latest Bloomberg report says that we could see the upcoming Apple Silicon Mac Pro by WWDC in June. The M1 Max MacBook Pro has already given some indications of just how powerful the new machine is likely to be, making it an eagerly awaited product for high-end video production. UPDATE: Apple has also updated GarageBand for iOS today with new touch instruments and loops, as well as support for importing and playing back MIDI files. With the release of iOS 12 today, Apple is updating both its Apple TV Remote and Apple Support apps. Both aim to bring a more seamless and friendly experience to users. For Apple TV Remote, the app will now support the new screen sizes (iPhone XR and iPhone XS Max) as well as autofill passwords from your iOS device to your Apple TV....

Apple today unveiled its new AirTag item tracker, redesigned iMac, and M1 iPad Pro. While the products aren’t available to order just yet, you can visualize them using exclusive augmented reality previews on Apple’s website. The new iMac and AirTag AR previews are particularly useful as they help visualize the form factors of the new products. In a follow-up tweet posted today, Epic now says that Apple has given them an indefinite extension. The announcement that Apple was going to withdraw Sign in with Apple support for Epic Games quickly led to a lot of backlash in the Apple community.
