Apple Watch continues to dominate the smartwatch industry, according to new data. During the second quarter of 2019, Strategy Analytics estimates that Apple shipped 5.7 million Apple Watches worldwide. With shipments of 5.7 million in Q2 2019, that’s up 50 percent year-over-year, compared to 3.8 million shipments in Q2 2018. Apple’s share of the smartwatch market has now grown to 46 percent, up from 44 percent during the same quarter last year....

Imran Chaudhri spent over 20 years at Apple and helped create the company’s hero products like iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch. Now on the fifth anniversary of Apple’s highly successful wearable, Chaudhri has shared some neat details on the history of what went into creating the Apple Watch‘s faces and features. Chaudri left Apple back in 2017 and is currently working on a company that’s mostly still in stealth mode called Humane who just picked up another Apple veteran, this time its VP of product engineering....

Apple is launching an official way for developers to ask for ratings in the App Store with iOS 10.3. The new system attempts to strike a balance for customer experience and developer incentive, allowing users to leave a rating without leaving the app — but the API enforces that the developer can only display the popup three times a year. Adoption will not be mandatory with iOS 10.3 but Apple intends to force developers to use the official API in the future, via Daring Fireball....

Aquaman star Jason Momoa reveals Arthur Curry is wearing denim pants in the film’s official poster - NOT leather pants like many fans thought. Momoa was first introduced as Arthur Curry in the DC movie franchise with a brief clip in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. It wasn’t until 2017’s Justice League that fans really got to see Aquaman in action - and Momoa’s superhero quickly became a fan-favorite. Next, he’ll lead his own title later this year in Aquaman, directed by James Wan....

DisplaySearch analyst David Hsieh noted today that Apple’s upcoming product launches and refreshes will keep the LCD supply chain in Asia very occupied during the remainder of 2012. The DisplaySearch blog explained: Apple’s business appeals to the LCD supply chain for various reasons related to production stability, but the displays are very technologically specific and present many challenges. As Hsieh further noted, Apple requires light and slim displays with high resolution, minimal power consumption, maximum color saturation, etc....

With drops in revenue and iOS device sales in what CEO Tim Cook called a “challenging quarter,” highlights from Apple’s Q2 2016 earnings today include an increase in Apple Music subscribers, more cash for Apple’s capital return and share repurchasing programs, and a “huge number of Android switchers and new to Mac customers.” Cook said the company had record switchers from Android and others platforms in the quarter and also noted an increase of 56% for iPhone sales in India despite an overall decline for iOS device sales....

Following earlier confusion about whether Apple or Foxconn was bidding for a stake in Toshiba’s chip-making division, it appears that the answer could be ‘both.’ Reuters cites a report by public broadcaster NHK that Apple would be making its own bid alongside the existing Foxconn one. If the deal went through, it could be bad news for Samsung – but there are a couple of hurdles to be overcome before agreement could be reached …...

Apple today shared a trio of new TV ads, all advertising its Apple TV+ service. Apple TV+ debuted in November with 8 original shows, and the company has steadily grown the library ever since. Uptake of the $4.99/month service remains unclear, with analyst consensus pitting TV+ as taking about 3-5% of the US streaming market. Depending on your perspective, that’s either a flop or a good start, considering TV+ is a new service that relies solely on brand new originals rather than established franchises and a back catalog....

Apple today published its annual meeting of shareholders notice and proxy statement. Filed with the SEC, the document confirms that Apple will hold its annual meeting of shareholders on March 1st, 2019 at Steve Jobs Theater. Apple first started holding its annual shareholder meeting at Steve Jobs Theater last year, and that is a trend that will continue in 2019. The meeting will take place at 9 AM PT. Due to limited seating at Steve Jobs Theater, Apple is asking shareholders to register in advance if they plan to attend the meeting....

Apple TV+ went live on November 1. The service offers a free year to any customer who has purchased an iPhone, iPad, Apple TV box or Mac since September 1, and will cost everyone else $4.99 a month. This approach should provide ease of access to the hundreds of millions of Apple users around the world (making the subscription a no-brainer for them). According to Apple, the steaming service is available in over 100 countries....

Tim Cook has tweeted a commitment that Apple will help to fund the rebuilding of Notre-Dame de Paris, the famous French cathedral which was devastated by fire last night. The fire burned for 15 hours, completely destroying the roof of the 850-year-old landmark, as well as causing the spire to collapse … Firefighters worked through the night to protect the structure, and report that the building has been saved, though parts of it are unstable....

Following this week’s special event, Apple has made some changes to the AppleCare+ plans, which offer additional support for Apple hardware. For the first time, there’s an AppleCare+ plan available for Apple TV, and customers can now extend Mac coverage beyond three years. AppleCare+ is a paid plan that provides not only extended technical support for Apple products, but also accidental damage coverage for devices such as the iPhone, iPad, and Mac....

Apple’s iOS has won a big thumbs-up from the Angry Birds themselves, who say that when it comes to mobile devices, Apple’s going to excel against the rest. “Apple will be the number one platform for a long time from a developer perspective, they have gotten so many things right,” said Peter Vesterbacka, Angry Birds development lead. And there’s more advantages for AAPL in the mobile space, he says, “they know what they are doing and they call the shots,” he added....

A Bloomberg report based on a Bernstein analysis suggests that Apple’s newest services have yet to make any ‘meaningful revenue,’ and investors will expect to hear about the company’s plans to address this. It says that although Apple’s overall Services business is going well, the bulk of this is generated by the App Store and the Google search deal – with Apple TV+, Arcade, News+, and the Apple Card not playing much of a role …...

Rumors and speculation about Apple’s video streaming service have been floating around for a number of years now, and it seems like the company may finally be ready to launch its new service. According to a report from CNBC, Apple is preparing to launch its video streaming service in April, corroborating a report from The Information back in January. CNBC says that Apple is in “the final stages of preparing its new streaming video service”, and that similar to how the company handles Carpool Karaoke: The Series, it will offer some free original content for device owners and a subscription service for everyone else....

Workflow, the automation app recently acquired by Apple, has just released a new update with bug fixes and the return of Google Chrome and Pocket functionality. The actions which were originally pulled after the Apple acquisition, were added alongside the introduction of two new Apple Music features. Following the acquisition, Apple made Workflow free and began refunding recent purchases of the app. Soon after, the team behind Workflow made it clear that no further updates would be seen in the foreseeable future....
