Shanghai has been on lockdown for almost two months, due to its worst COVID-19 breakout since 2020. Apple supplier Quanta Computer, located in Shanghai, is facing backlash from mostly low-wage workers demanding more freedom from these lockdown restrictions. According to Bloomberg, the workers are worried their supply of daily necessities will run out as the lockdown continues. Hundreds have been clashing with guards and flooding isolation barriers, searching for these necessities....

Before Google’s “Get The Message” campaign in August, Android’s Messages app was updated with iMessage reactions at the start of this year. In a very weird turn of events, Apple appears to be taking credit for Google adding iMessage reactions on Android. As spotted by David Imel today, Apple’s iOS 16 “All New Features” page lists the following addition for the Messages app: That text was added to the page recently, presumably with the launch of iOS 16 earlier this month....

Apple has agreed to repay $4.2M to settle a claim by the L.A. Unified School District over the disastrous attempt to put an iPad into the hands of every student, reports the Los Angeles Times. It was first reported back in April that the LAUSD might take legal action against Apple to recoup the money spent on iPads for the program. Apple had initially expected to earn $30M from the first phase, a number that would have reached around a quarter of a billion dollars if the rollout had been completed as originally planned....

A new drama series is set to debut on Apple TV+ called Lessons in Chemistry. According to Variety, Brie Larson will executive produce as well as star in the new series. Apple has today released an update on the FaceTime eavesdropping bug and offered an apology. The company says it has patched the flaw on its servers and will roll out an update to iOS users next week to bring back Group FaceTime with the bug fixed. It also makes a promise to improve how it handles bug reports and its escalation process. Apple’s statement says that as “soon as our engineering team became aware of the details necessary to reproduce the bug, they quickly disabled Group FaceTime and began work on the fix....

Apple subsidiary Claris this week released a new update for FileMaker, its cross-platform relational database software. Apple is testing a local, offline version of Dictation voice input for iOS devices, according to strings of code found inside of the iOS 7 beta. The code, which was discovered by Hamza Sood, is located inside of both iOS 7 betas, but it is not present in iOS 6. Currently, when an iOS user uses their voice to input text using Dictation, the iOS device will use software that uploads your speech to the cloud to be converted into text....

New research by J.D. Power 2021 US Credit Card Satisfaction Study shows that Apple Card is the only card issued by Goldman Sachs, which ranked highest among the Midsize Credit Card segment and received a chart-topping score of 864. The Apple Watch Series 4 can now take an electrocardiogram (ECG) reading … This is something that normally requires specialist medical equipment, Apple says it is the first time consumers have ever been able to buy an ECG advice without a prescription.
