As is the case with many other Apple products, AppleCare+ for the Apple Watch will be offered at the time of purchase within physical Apple Retail Stores and the Apple Online Store. If Apple does indeed replace an Apple Watch under AppleCare+, there will likely be a deductible price for replacement, which will be far less than replacement pricing for customers without the AppleCare+ plan. While the $999 price for the Apple Watch Edition sounds high, it should be noted that it’s around 10% of the product’s base cost, which tracks with AppleCare pricing for the $2999 Mac Pro, which retails for $249 (but can be had for less from resellers)....

CrowdStrike called the group “Aquatic Panda” and said it is an “intrusion adversary with a dual mission of intelligence collection and industrial espionage” that has operated since at least May 2020. The group’s exact intent is unknown because the attack was disrupted. CrowdStrike told ZDNet, however, that Aquatic Panda is known to maintain persistence in environments to gain access to intellectual property and other industrial trade secrets. “Aquatic Panda operations have primarily focused on entities in the telecommunications, technology, and government sectors,” CrowdStrike explained in a report....

Apple took an iMac Pro to the Final Cut Pro X Creative Summit to demo its power to the professional video editors attending the conference. Whilst we still don’t know exactly when the computer will be available, Apple has promised a December launch and photos of the iMac Pro in the flesh certainly help to build the hype. The Apple Store is currently down ahead of preorders for iPhone 13, iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13 Pro, and iPhone 13 Pro Max. Customers can start preordering their new phones beginning at 5 AM Pacific Time, or about six hours from now. The iPhone 13 lineup comes in the same screen size configurations as the iPhone 12, and starting prices are unchanged too. However, Apple has doubled based storage to 128 GB on the cheapest iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini models....

Although Apple has said that the Apple Watch will need to be charged nightly, the company has not disclosed any details on how long the wearable’s battery will last. For the first time, people with knowledge of the Apple Watch’s development have provided us with the specific performance targets Apple wants to achieve for the Apple Watch battery, but the actual numbers may fall short of those targets. According to our sources, Apple opted to use a relatively powerful processor and high-quality screen for the Apple Watch, both of which contribute to significant power drain....

Three years ago, Apple was found guilty of anticompetitive behavior centered around ebook pricing and price-fixing. The case was in limbo for years as Apple appealed and tried to fight the ruling, but earlier this year the Supreme Court declined to hear the company’s appeal, putting Apple on the hook for $450 million. Law firm Hagens Berman today issued a press release revealing that payouts will begin being sent to affected customers tomorrow, June 21st....

Apple will be celebrating Earth Day on April 22nd in its retail stores and on its Cupertino, California campus, according to multiple Apple employees. Earth Day is an annual day of focus on environmental protection and initiatives that has taken place in several countries since 1970… Each year, the Earth Day organization focuses the April 22nd celebrations on certain environmental topics. 2014’s topic is known as “Green Cities,” and this is a focus on more environmentally efficient buildings, transportation, and cities....

Apple’s summer “Apple Camp” program for students will expand to become a year-round program beginning in September, according to a message from Apple Retail head Angela Ahrendts to employees this week. Ahrendts also noted that field trips and programs for teachers will also become year-round. Here’s Ahrendts message to employees on the matter, per Apple Retail employees: Apple’s retail website for students still lists Apple Camp as returning during the summer of 2016, but this page will likely be updated in the coming weeks to reflect the new strategy....

Over the last several years, Apple has gradually been expanding the ways people can tune into its various keynotes. This year, Apple is further expanding its efforts and will stream the September 10th iPhone 11 event on YouTube. This marks the first time that Apple has live streamed one of its keynotes on YouTube, and it dramatically expands the availability of the stream across all platforms. With the iPhone XS event last year, Apple offered live video on Twitter, but as of now, it’s unclear whether that will be the case this year for this year’s iPhone 11 event....

Apple TV+ today unveiled its latest bout of Peanuts content, as part of its exclusive Snoopy distribution deal with WildBrain. The second season of Apple Original series The Snoopy Show will premiere on March 11. Brand new Earth Day and Mothers Day specials will follow in April and May. Season two of The Snoopy Show comprises six new episodes, featuring Snoopy, Charlie Brown and the usual gang of classic Peanuts characters....

Apple usually comes up with creative ways to celebrate Earth Day each spring and this year, it’s going to release an original animated film starring the voice of Meryl Streep based on the children’s book, Here We Are: Notes for Living on Planet Earth by Oliver Jeffers. Apple has also signed Julia Louis-Dreyfus to a content deal for upcoming TV+ properties. As American Heart Month continues, Apple has a heartwarming story to share about how an anniversary Apple Watch gift quite possibly saved the life of a 58-year-old man named Bob March. In a letter addressed to a medical team performing a heart procedure on Bob, he thanked the staff performing the operation and cited the Apple Watch for getting him to the operation table in the first place. The heart procedure took place last fall shortly after Lori March gifted her husband Bob with the Apple Watch for their 17th anniversary....

Apple has come under considerable criticism following its decision to agree to a Chinese government request to remove VPN apps from its local App Store. Virtual private networks allow people in China to access sites blocked by the government, and to ensure that authorities cannot track the sites they visit. App-tracking site ASO100.com says that the company has so far removed more than 400 VPN apps. But while Apple is trying to maintain good relationships with China by complying with such requests, analysts and tech commentators believe that its troubles with the country ‘have just started’ …...

Just earlier today, a report detailed how Apple CEO Tim Cook has been personally lobbying members of the Senate Judiciary Committee as antitrust legislation looms in the United States. Now, Apple has fired back in a new letter sent to Senators Dick Durbin, Amy Klobuchar, and Mike Lee, saying that the proposed changes would undermine user security and privacy in multiple ways. The letter reads: As we reported this morning, the Open Markets Act has progressed to committee stage – the next step toward becoming law....

Apple on Tuesday unveiled the new M2 iPad Pro and the 10th generation entry-level iPad. While the company did not hold a special press event, it did share a mini event video to introduce and show details of the new products announced today. The nine-minute video is presented by Apple executives responsible for the iPad, and it is in the same style as the prerecorded Apple keynotes. In the video, executives detail what’s new in the 10th generation iPad and the M2 iPad Pro....

Ready to tout the new features of its iPhone 5, Apple just posted a page on its website dedicated to showing off what type of photos the iPhone 5’s 8-megapixel camera can take. During the event, Apple Senior Vice President of Worldwide Marketing Phil Schiller explained that the 8-megapixel iSight camera was “enhanced” thanks to a new “sapphire crystal lens covering.” Schiller added that the new camera can take photos up to 40 percent faster and is 25 percent smaller to compensate for the iPhone 5’s smaller body....
