Following significant updates to its GarageBand and Logic Pro X tools, Apple this evening has released updates to its Final Cut Pro, Motion, and Compressor editing apps. Each update includes its own set of changes, including bug fixes, performance improvements, and more… Leading the pack is Final Cut Pro, which is bumped to version 10.3.2 with today’s update. The app adds support for adding custom folders of audio files to the Sound Effects browser, as well as a host of bug fixes and performance improvements....

Apple has vastly expanded the data available through its Apple Maps Mobility Trends Reports. Apple originally made this data available last month as a way to help health authorities mitigate the spread of COVID-19. When the tool was first made available, Apple touted that Mobility Trends Reports aggregated data from major cities and 63 counties or regions, but that has greatly expanded recently. As noted by Asymco’s Horace Dediu on Twitter, Apple has added around 580 new sub-regions to the Apple Maps Mobility data collections....

Apple has announced a new Apple Watch SE, with a display 30% larger than the previous model. The new model is available in silver, midnight, and starlight – together with a color-matched nylon composite back which reduces the weight of the watch … The price starts at $249, compares to $279 for the first-gen model. Background The 1st-gen Apple Watch SE was launched two years ago, in 2020. It was designed to be a more affordable model than the Apple Watch Series 6, but a better spec than the $199 Series 3, which continued to be sold right up to earlier this year....

With Apple Watch Series 7 hitting stores in a couple of days, there are still small tidbits we are just discovering now. After the Apple Watch’s embargo lifted today, we were able to take a look at the new power cable that comes in the box. As spotted by Italian YouTuber iMatteo, the new Apple Watch Series 7 charging puck is made out of aluminum instead of plastic. Not only that, but it now comes with a USB-C connector and not USB-A, as we had previously reported....

Despite missing analyst estimates for overall revenue due to supply constraints in Q4 2021, Apple still saw a new all-time high for revenue in the Mac category. During a call with analysts this afternoon, Apple CFO Luca Maestri attributed this record quarter to “strong demand for the M1 MacBook Air.” Apple no longer reports unit sales for any of its products, so it’s notable to hear Maestri specifically call out the M1 MacBook Air as a driver of the Mac’s resurgence....

In the ad, Apple shows off Apple Music, while the HomePod also makes a few appearances… In the ad, DJ Khaled’s son Asahd is seemingly plotting to overthrow Khaled’s reign in the music industry. Asahd is voiced by Kevin Hart. Throughout the ad, the two can be seen and heard using ‘Hey, Siri’ to control a HomePod and play music....

Earlier this month, Apple stopped signing the first public release of iOS 15. Now the company has just stopped signing iOS 15.0.1, which means that users who updated their devices to iOS 15.0.2 or iOS 15.1 can no longer downgrade to iOS 15.0.1. iOS 15.0.1 was released to users on October 1 to fix a bug that prevented users from unlocking iPhone 13 models using the “Apple Watch Unlock feature.” It also corrected an issue that caused the Settings app to incorrectly show that the device’s storage was full....

The Apple Store is down today, although it’s still several hours before the new products go on sale. The teaser message from Apple has actually been tweaked with new fonts and new text. Apple is reportedly threatening to fire an employee over her posting a TikTok with iPhone security tips and advice. As first spotted by The Verge, the employee was told that she “breached company policy” by identifying herself as an Apple employee in a video about Apple products. The employee, Paris Campbell, has worked in Apple retail for six years and currently serves as a repair technician. The video posted to TikTok by Campbell came in response to a video from another user who lost her iPhone at Coachella and subsequently started receiving threatening text messages....

Apple will stop selling its current Mac Pro professional desktop computer in Europe on March 1st, according to our sources. While the Mac Pro has been seen as an Apple product nearing discontinuation because of its small user-base, lack of significant promotion by Apple, Apple’s strategy of moving into the “post-PC” era, and, perhaps, most controversially, the lack of a notable update in a few years, none of these are seemingly the reason for the imminent discontinuation....

Apple announced on Monday that it will soon raise App Store prices in multiple countries, including Japan, South Korea, and many others in Europe. The price increases will take effect on both App Store apps and in-app purchases starting in October. App Store prices getting more expensive As detailed in a note sent to developers, the App Store price increase will apply to several countries this time around. Regions affected are Chile, Egypt, Japan, Malaysia, Pakistan, Poland, South Korea, Sweden, Vietnam, and every territory that uses the euro as its currency – which includes France, Germany, Italy, Portugal, and Spain....

Apple TV+ has officially signed on to produce and distribute a long in-the-works adaptation of the book ‘Bad Blood’, which dissects the fall of Theranos and its Steve Jobs-wannabe founder Elizabeth Holmes. As reported by Deadline, Apple Original Films and Legendary Entertainment studios are co-producing the film, directed by Adam McKay and starring as Jennifer Lawrence as Holmes. The announcement follows earlier news of a first look deal signed between Apple and Adam McKay’s production company for its movie pipeline....

Apple Original Films has landed the rights to a “nonfiction feature film” on actor Michael J. Fox. The documentary will focus not only on Fox’s acting career, but also on his Parkinson’s disease diagnosis and related medical research advocacy. The still-untitled film is currently in production across New York, Los Angeles, and Vancouver. It comes from Oscar-winning filmmaker Davis Guggenheim, who also serves as the film’s director. Apple announced today that Phil Schiller will transition into a new Apple Fellow role. Schiller has long served as Apple’s senior vice president of worldwide marketing, but that is a position that will now be occupied by Apple’s Greg Joswiak. In his new role as an Apple Fellow, Schiller will continue to “lead the App Store and Apple events.” He will also continue to offer “thought partnership and guidance” as an Apple Fellow and will report directly to Apple CEO Tim Cook....
