The Apple Store is down ahead of Apple’s October ‘Unleashed’ media event, which starts at 10 AM PT today. We are expecting to see a major update to the MacBook Pro line, with redesigned 14-inch and 16-inch models incoming featuring next-generation ‘M1X’ Apple Silicon. AirPods 3 and an M1X Mac mini update are also rumored. Today’s ‘Unleashed’ event will be the first time that Apple transitions its pro Mac lines to Apple Silicon, in its switch away from power-hungry Intel CPUs....

Dialog Semiconductor, which makes most of its revenue from supplying power-management chips to Apple, has reported record quarterly revenue of $463M in Q4 last year. This was up 27% year-on-year. The firm saw its shares climb 4% on the news, though not clawing back the fall following last month’s admission that it faced an uncertain future with Apple … Dialog shares fell by as much as 19% after it admitted that its contract to supply power management chips to Apple could be at risk....

The battle between Epic Games and Apple continues. Earlier this month, Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers ruled that Apple must allow App Store developers to redirect users to other payment systems. The judge sided with Apple on all other claims, leading Apple to call the ruling a “resounding victory,” while Epic filed an appeal. Now, Apple has reportedly denied Epic’s request to reinstate its developer account, which would allow it to bring Fortnite back to the App Store....

Following last night’s report that new Macs are still on track for this month and as predicted, Recode now reports that Apple is planning to hold an event on October 27th to announce its latest lineup, meaning that we’re just over a week away from those long overdue updates… The report cites unnamed sources and claims that the event will take place “at or near” Apple’s Cupertino campus, not in San Francisco where other recent events have been held....

Apple has just announced that it will hold its quarterly investor conference call on April 23rd at 5 PM. As usual, Apple executives will go over all of the sales and earnings for the second quarter of 2014. The company will also likely continue teasing “new product categories” to be announced later this year. The first half of FY2014 hasn’t been especially full of new Apple products. Instead, the company has focused on revising its existing lineup....

The start of 2021 has been great for Apple TV+ originals. Following the Academy Award nominations for “Wolfwalkers” and “Greyhound”, the film “The Banker” has now earned an NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Independent Motion Picture. Apple celebrated the victory in a tweet, as you can see below. The NAACP Image Awards is recognized as the nation’s preeminent multicultural awards show from an African American Perspective. They celebrate the achievements and performances of people of color in the arts and those who promote social justice through their creative work....

When Apple initially announced the fourth-generation Apple TV, the company made a point to focus on a new feature called universal search. This capability allows users to perform a single search using Siri or the Search app and see content across multiple channels. Until today, the feature was limited to Netflix, iTunes, Hulu, PBS, PBS Kids, Showtime, Showtime Anytime, HBO Go and HBO Now, but now, three new apps have gained support for universal search: Nat Geo TV, Fox Now, and FXNow....

Apple today unveiled a brand new Siri Remote for the Apple TV, alongside a hardware refresh for the Apple TV box itself. The new remotes combines a trackpad with clickable D-Pad buttons. The remote is backwards-compatible with older Apple TVs than run tvOS, and it will be available in May. You can buy the remote separately for $59. The new remote has got rid of the breakable glass touch surface, and instead features a fully-aluminium design....

On the Mail.app update, some users may experience issues with Mail after updating to 10.5.6. If so, run Software Update and you should see the fix. Otherwise, you can download it directly from Apple. Searching for contacts in a large address book (more than 1000 contacts) is faster and no longer results in a “slow script” browser alert message Exported vCards with multi-line addresses or notes can now be imported into the Mac OS X Address Book...

Update: Every stainless steel model is now completely sold out online. We noted last month that Apple Watch inventory was shrinking ahead of Apple’s expected fall event, and now it appears that almost all stainless steel Apple Watch models are sold out online and in limited supply in stores. Only one version of the steel Apple Watch is available to order online, and seven of the aluminum Apple Watch Sport models are sold out as well....

Just like last year, Apple is once again hosting an Apple Watch Activity Challenge on Thanksgiving Day. This year, Apple Watch owners need to record a 5K workout on Thursday, 23rd November to earn the 2017 Thanksgiving Activity badge and iMessage sticker. Thanks to Kyle for the heads up. Apple closed all of its retail stores and offices in China on February 1 due to the coronavirus outbreak. The closures were scheduled to last for just one week, but now Apple says that all of its retail stores in China will have reopened as of Friday, March 12. Apple announced its closures in China on February 1 and said it planned to reopen stores on February 9, but that date ended up being extended....

Just after its “Peek performance” March event, Apple has launched the macOS 12.3 RC. The software includes the anticipated Universal Control, all-new emoji, new Siri voice, and more. The macOS 12.3 RC (build 21E230) is starting to show up via OTA for developers and public testers already enrolled in the beta as well as being available to download from Apple’s Developer website and public beta website. According to a new report from the Irish Independent, Apple is planning to expand its presence in Ireland by creating 1,000 new jobs in Cork. Specifically, Apple plans to create a four-story office building and a 752-space car lot at its European headquarters in Cork. With this addition, Apple’s workforce in Cork will reach 6,000 and the company will be able to expand its workforce at the Holyhill development, while also continuing to support its economic development objective....

As part of its Today at Apple sessions, Apple has been offering content to help users get the most out of the iPhone camera. This time, the company has shared on its YouTube channel a new video showing how you can take and edit great photos in Night Mode using the iPhone and the iOS Photos app. The eight-minute video features photographer Maria Lax and also Landon, a creative at Apple Grand Central in New York....

Apple updated its Investor Relations webpage this evening to announce that it will hold its Annual Meeting of Shareholders on February 13th, 2018 at Steve Jobs Theater. The record date for the meeting is December 15th, 2017… Because of limited seating at Steve Jobs Theater, Apple is requiring that shareholders register ahead of time to attend the meeting. Shareholders will be assigned a unique control number once Apple files its proxy statement....

Apple is reportedly making its Activation Lock theft deterrent feature on by default in iOS 8 as it moves to please politicians attempting to require smartphone makers implement a remote “kill switch” to disable stolen devices. The news comes from Attorney General Eric Schneiderman and San Francisco District Attorney George Gascón who praised Apple’s decision in a statement today. The two have been pushing smartphone makers for stronger theft deterrent features as part of its Secure Our Smartphones Initiative, but had expressed disappoint with the fact Apple’s Activation Lock feature wasn’t enabled for users by default....
