The Information is out with a new report today in which it says the rumored Apple streaming service will be available in more than 100 countries, but not necessarily all at once. Citing people familiar with Apple’s plans, the report explains that the service will initially launch in the United States, but swiftly expand as time progresses. The report elaborates, saying that the Apple streaming service will be available in the United States during the first half of 2019, and expand globally “in the following months....

Last month, Apple inked a $70 million deal to premiere the upcoming Tom Hanks World War II film Greyhound. Following that announcement, Apple today has shared that it will release the film on Apple TV+ on July 10. As we explained last month, Greyhound was originally scheduled to debut in theaters and normal distribution channels by Sony Pictures, but the COVID-19 pandemic caused a shift in plans. Various streaming services tried to acquire the film, but Apple came in atop, reaching a deal in the range of $70 million....

It’s a glaring hole in Apple’s MacBook line: The ability to access 3G (4G?) networks without tethering or using a 3G hotspot. Apple CEO Steve Jobs told the USAToday in 2008 that the reason that he didn’t want to build that functionality into MacBooks was that it invited complexity and locked users into a carrier. Apple is working on a TV show starring NBA superstar Kevin Durant, Variety reports. The show is dubbed “Swagger” and will be produced by Imagine Television and Durant’s Thirty Five Media. The show will focus on Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) basketball, and the stories behind the players, coaches, and families involved. Reggie Rock Bythewood will be writing and directing the series. Bythewood is known for Shots Fired, in which he collaborated with Imagine, as well as co-writing Notorious....

Real architect simkoongarchitect has re-created the gorgeous mansion from Oscar-winning film Parasite in The Sims 4. Simkoongarchitect includes every room from the mansion and has created an interactive VR tour of their Sims mansion. Parasite is an award-winning South Korean film directed by Bong Joon-Ho that tells the tale of a Korean family struct by poverty who become parasitic to a wealthy family. The low-income family slowly infiltrates the mansion the wealthy family resides in by taking up different jobs the family needs, such as tutors, drivers, and live-in maids....

A couple of weeks since the first beta of tvOS 16 was released, Apple is now seeding its second version. Although the company almost forgot about the Apple TV operating system during the WWDC 2022 keynote, there are some features users should be excited about when it launches later this fall. Production orders placed by Apple for Apple Silicon MacBooks with its suppliers suggest that the company is expecting high demand for its first Intel-free models. It wasn’t long before the tech journalists dug up the data and found that Apple has actually partnered with TomTom and OpenStreetMap for the map data across the globe. A little more investigation revealed that Apple is partnering with at-least 15 other maps data providers which includes Waze, Intermap, LeadDog, DigitalGlobe alongside others. But our friend, Cody Cooper, a New Zealand based developer, found something more interesting. While playing with Apple Maps on iOS 6 beta, Cody found that some of the Maps images had Microsoft attribution....

A few days ago, we reported that Apple has stopped signing iOS 14.8, blocking downgrades from iOS 15 to any version of iOS 14. Now the company has also stopped signing the first iOS 15 release, which means that users who upgraded their devices to iOS 15.0.1 or iOS 15.1 beta can no longer downgrade to iOS 15.0. iOS 15 was officially released to all users on September 20. The update comes with new features such as Portrait Mode in FaceTime, Focus modes and redesigned notifications, improved Maps, Live Text, and more....

The past two WWDC events have been completely virtual due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Apple’s SVP of Design Jony Ive and ‘part-time’ employee Marc Newson will open Condé Naste’s ‘International Luxury Conference’ in April. The pair will be interviewed by Vogue’s international media editor Suzy Menkes. The set topic is the ’21st century definition of luxury and their collaborative work to date’. The conference will run from April 22nd to 23rd, just before the Apple Watch is released to the general public. No doubt the Watch will be a key talking point at the conference, with both Ive and Newson playing crucial roles in its development....

We’ve gotten word from multiple sources that Apple will begin repairing/replacing broken iPhone 5c displays in its retail stores next week. The current plan is to begin offering replacements on Monday, January 20th. As we noted in November of last year, this initiative has been in the works for several months as Apple needs to source individual screens for replacement and supply each of its stores within special calibration machines…...

Apple TV is receiving a flurry of new channels today. Most prominently is a brand new YouTube app, to bring the client up-to-date with some of the other platforms. The new app reflects the design of other set-top box clients, with easier access to subscriptions and search functions. For the security conscious, the YouTube app now uses OAuth to login rather than naive password entry (by visiting youtube.com/activate) Unfortunately, this YouTube update also means that Apple TV users will start seeing ads for the first time on the platform....

After some complaints about app discoverability for the new Apple TV App Store that launched late last month, Apple appears to be rolling out curated categories for the storefront not unlike its App Store on iPhone and iPad. The new categories currently only include lists for gaming and entertainment apps, but it’s likely the curated lists will expand into other categories as Apple continues to enhance curation on the newly launched App Store....
