Apple updated its “Cards” app for creating and sending physical greeting cards that originally launched in October of last year at the iPhone 4S unveiling. Included in version 1.1 of the iOS app are new letterpress cards for Mother’s Day, which are just in time for the holiday that is celebrated in most countries during April or May (May 13 in the United States this year). Other additions include “Get Well” cards, new designs for birthdays, thank yous, and other categories....

Apple today has updated its Clips application with a handful of new features and options for creatives. The update brings the app to version 2.0.4 and includes new soccer content ahead of next month’s FIFA World Cup… Apple touts that the update brings soccer graphics including an animated sticker, label, and poster with customizable text. Today’s Clips update comes following a major update in November that brought the app to version 2....

Following the release of iOS 11 to the general public earlier today, Apple is now rolling out updated versions of Numbers, Pages, and Keynote for iOS. The updates bring support for new iOS 11 features, performance improvements, and more. Pages has been updated with a redesigned document manager that makes it easier to view files from third-party service providers and iCloud Drive. There’s also drag and drop support for iPad, allowing you to move text, images, and more between Pages and other applications....

The recently released Audible app for Apple Watch now lets users sync audiobooks to the Apple Watch for offline playback. This means you can sync audiobooks to the Apple Watch, and then play it back without the need of your iPhone. Of course, with just like every other watchOS 5 audio app, you’ll only be able to sync audiobooks and not stream them as there currently is no API for that yet....

Following this morning’s introduction of the Apple Watch Series 4, Apple has updated its Design Resources page with new assets for developers and designers. The revised templates reflect changes made to optimize watchOS for new, larger displays. Additionally, Apple has published new Tech Talks on its Developer Videos page that offer best practices when building applications for the Apple Watch Series 4 and new iPhones. The Apple Watch Series 4 offers a display over 30% larger than its predecessor, representing the most significant change to not only the Watch’s hardware, but to the content layout possibilities for watchOS itself....

Apple currently offers an iPhone as a loaner device to customers when they take their phone in for a repair at an Apple Store or Apple Authorized Service Providers. While the current loaner model is an iPhone 8, the company is about to upgrade its loaner program with the iPhone XR. As stated in an internal memo sent to Apple Store employees and certified technicians (via MacRumors), Apple will soon provide iPhone XR units to customers when they have to wait for a long time to have their iPhone repaired....

Eight months after starting to test a new AR development tool called Effect House, TikTok is making it available to all users. In Taipei, Apple is putting the finishing touches on its second official Taiwanese retail store. After opening its first location on the island in 2017 at Taipei 101, Apple is expanding outdoors with an open pavilion at street level in the Xinyi District of Taipei. Overnight, promotional graphics were installed on the building teasing its imminent arrival and name: Apple Xinyi A13. 10 minutes from Taipei 101 on foot is the Far Eastern Group’s Xinyi A13 shopping mall, a massive new retail endeavor that has been under construction since 2016 and in planning for many years longer....

Gartner is today out with a report detailing its estimates for Q2 2013 global and U.S. PC shipments. Globally, the industry average for shipments is down 10.9%. This is the fifth consecutive decline for this specific metric. Gartner doesn’t specify Apple’s estimated numbers in the first table, but does pin the company up against other computer makers in terms of U.S.-based shipments. As can be seen in the table (above), Apple’s estimated shipments are down 4....

The latest update to Apple’s WWDC app includes new features for iOS 10, tvOS 10, and watchOS 3. Apple’s developer conference app now works with Dark Mode on the Apple TV when running tvOS 10. The change should reflect whichever mode the Home screen is using which you can set with Siri or in the Settings app. The WWDC app also supports more 3D Touch interactions for iPhone 6s and later, plus you can now use filters to find locally stored videos and videos you haven’t viewed yet....

Wedbush cites several different reasons for why Apple is likely considering, or should be considering, an acquisition of Peloton. Over the last week or two Apple Stores started stocking these new app-enabled Christmas lights from Lumenplay both online and in retail stores. Similar to other app-controlled lighting systems, Lumenplay comes as string lights perfect for Christmas trees or outdoor decorations as we move into the holiday season, opposed to the traditional lightbulbs from Philips and others. The lights work over Bluetooth 4.0 and offer customizations for light colors, timers, effects, a music visualizer, and more via a companion app from the App Store....

France has announced that it will go ahead with a so-called ‘Apple tax’ this year, whether or not an agreement is reached on an international proposal to ensure tech giants receive the same tax treatment across 137 countries. Background Macron made the accusation last August, to defend the country’s decision to impose a tax on the four tech companies. Other European countries had been debating a similar approach, leading to calls for a single policy across the European Union....

If you weren’t in the festive holiday spirit already, Apple is launching its legal challenge this week to oppose a 13 billion euro charge levied on the company in August by the EU Commission for supposed illegal tax benefits from Ireland. Apple and Best Buy have agreed to begin selling both the standard AppleCare protection plan for Macs and the more premium AppleCare+ for iPhones, iPads, and the Apple Watch through Best Buy stores, according to sources. The plans call for Best Buy to begin offering the AppleCare plans in its stores at checkout around the week of September 14th, just ahead of the iPhone 6S launch.
