As always in the run up to a launch event, the Apple Store has been taken offline for updates ahead of today’s iPad-focused event. Apple has also taken down iWork for iCloud, promising that it will be back in a few hours with “great new features.” Additionally, Apple has updated its homepage with a promo for the event … There’ll be live streaming video coverage, and we’ll of course keep you informed throughout....

Update #2: AT&T’s official statement: AT&T GoPhone prepaid service is now available in Apple Retail stores. Prepaid service is also available for iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c, iPhone 4S in AT&T and Cricket Wireless stores and online at att.com and at cricketwireless.com. Update: A contact has confirmed that AT&T’s prepaid GoPhone plans are also supported by iPhones at Apple Retail Store locations as we previously reported to expect… Following our report earlier this month that Apple was preparing to begin selling iPhones with prepaid plans through its retail stores, today T-Mobile confirmed iPhones with its prepaid service can now be purchased and activated in Apple stores across the country....

Tim Cook noted during Monday’s earnings call that Apple was “investing like crazy” in China, but he took the opportunity of his current visit to the country to put a specific number on the company’s retail expansion plans: it will open 25 new Apple Stores in Greater China within the next two years. Greater China includes both Hong Kong and Taiwan. Apple has announced today that it will release its earnings report for the fiscal first quarter of 2022 on Thursday, January 27. As usual, the company will release its Q1 2022 earnings report then hold a conference call with investors and analysts to provide more detail. This earnings release will cover the ever-important holiday shopping season for Apple. It will also cover the ongoing impacts of the chip shortage that is limiting iPhone and iPad availability, as well as the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic....

At the Black Hat security conference in August, a lead Apple security executive will offer new details on iOS 13 and macOS Catalina. The talk will run for 50 minutes and is entitled “Behind the Scenes of iOS and Mac Security.” The talk will be led by Ivan Krstic, Apple’s head of security engineering and architecture. Apple today has shared a new advertisement for the fourth-gen Apple TV. The ad follows the same theme as “The Kiss,” which was released last month and starred Allison Brie. Today’s new ad, however, features Lakers player Kobe Bryant and actor Michael B. Jordan using the Apple TV and accompanying Siri Remote. The ad, called “Father Time,” shows using the Apple TV Siri Remote to do things like rewind content and find more content to watch....

Apple is now selling an exclusive USB-C hub from Satechi, the Multiport Pro Adapter. The new device features a USB-C port for power, USB-A, SD and microSD card readers, and an HDMI port in a slim package. Native Union also has a range of new Apple accessories now available at Apple Stores and Apple.com. Satechi announced the Apple-exclusive USB-C adapter in a press release today: The Multiport Pro Adapter comes in space gray and is priced at $70, the same as what Apple’s first-party USB-C adapter normally sells for (but doesn’t have SD readers like Satechi’s new adapter)....

Apple’s Vice President of environment, policy, and social initiatives, Lisa Jackson took to the stage to discuss the company’s latest numbers and initiatives in environmental protection. Jackson announced that 93% of its operations are running on renewable energy worldwide. A total of 23 countries, including United States and China are utilizing 100% renewable energy. In Sichuan, China, Apple was able to build a 40-megawatt solar farm without disturbing the local fauna....

We broke the news yesterday that developers Steven Troughton-Smith and the TheMudKip were working on bringing iOS applications to the Apple TV in a native experience. We have been updating with the developer’s progress since our initial report, but now a major leap was achieved: full-screen applications. Troughton-Smith was awesome enough to exclusively pass on the images (above and below) of full-screen applications in action. The port was initially able to run multiple applications side-by-side on a display connected to an Apple TV, but now the developers have figured out a way to run iPad applications —because of the artwork resolution— at a full 720p resolution....

Now that the COVID-19 vaccine from Pfizer and BioNTech has received official approval from the FDA in the US, Apple is ramping up its efforts to encourage employees to get vaccinated. Apple is still, however, stopping short of mandating vaccines, something that other tech companies like Google and Facebook have already done.
