Apple is releasing a big update to its Apple School Manager service this week that allows administrators to quickly and easily setup, deploy and manage iOS devices and Macs being used in the classroom (and with Apple’s own Classroom app). The entire Apple School Manager web portal is getting refreshed with a brand new user-interface and handful of features highly requested by users. Among the new features is an Activity Manager, which will serve as one central location that users can monitor and take care of most bulk tasks....

The Academy of Television Arts and Sciences announced today that Apple TV+ has won two Primetime Emmy Awards ahead of the 73rd Primetime Emmy Awards ceremony, which is set to take place on Sunday, September 19. Apple Original Calls won for outstanding Motion Design while For All Mankind: Time Capsule won for Outstanding Innovation in Interactive Media. According to a new report from The Information, Apple has hired away Jessie Henderson from WarnerMedia as the company looks to expand its investment in original film production. The new hire will join the Apple Original Films division as Apple looks to expand the number of films it produces. The report say that Apple is raising up its production target for TV+ movies, increasing from the original expectation of 10-12 per year...

While users in the US are today getting access to CBS Sports and USA Now on the Apple TV, Canadian users are being greeted today with two new channels from the big Canadian cable companies. Bell’s CraveTV and Rogers’ Shomi, two competitive on-demand TV services akin to Hulu in the US, are now accessible on Apple’s set-top box. Bell made an official announcement today noting that the Apple TV app provides access to the entire CraveTV library for subscribers including popular shows HOMELAND, NURSE JACKIE, WEEDS, HAPPYISH, BOSCH, THE WIRE, SEINFELD, and more....

There are a few snippets of AppleTV related news popping up today. The first we take with the usual grain of salt as it comes to us from the often unreliable DigiTimes. The publication has been reporting some more believable stories as of late, but today’s rumor of Apple purchasing 55 and 65-inch Ultra HD TV panels from LG seems to be more rumor than anything else. Apple has of course been rumored several times to be building a full fledged HDTV to go along with the much expected revamped AppleTV service coming in the the near future....

Jason Momoa has revealed that ahead of filming DC’s upcoming Aquaman film, he was offered a pearl of wisdom from none other than X-Men star Michael Fassbender. Created by Paul Norris and Mort Weisinger in 1941, the character made his DCEU debut in 2017’s Justice League. Although the film proved to be a critical and commercial disappointment, DC and Warner Bros remained steadfast in their plans for a solo adventure. The return of the sea-faring hero will mark the first standalone outing since the blockbuster team-up, with many fans hoping it’ll serve as a turning point in the collective franchise....

Fashion brand Ralph Lauren has announced that it plans to make Apple’s retail head Angela Ahrendts a non-executive director at its annual general meeting in August. She will be joined by Michael George, CEO of QVC parent company Qurate Retail … Both will retain their existing roles, their involvement in Ralph Lauren likely to be limited to participating in a small number of board meetings and offering ad-hoc advice. It’s not unusual for senior execs in large companies to hold a small number of non-exec board positions in others....

Apple’s 4 for 1 stock split has taken effect as of Monday, August 31 and analysts are weighing in on how the move will impact the stock’s share price. While historically AAPL has seen on average a 10.4% increase 12 months after its stock splits, there are a couple of factors that could hint at stronger than average gains for Apple shares this time around. As we’ve previously noted, Apple’s stock split won’t directly increase its share price but the move normally encourages more investment, leading to post-split gains....

According to iLounge, Tony Fadell – a former Apple Senior Vice President – will soon find another place to sell his new Nest Learning Thermostats: the Apple Store. According to the report, the Nest will run for $249 at the Apple Store (the same as Nest’s price through Nest’s online store). Apple subsidiary FileMaker Inc., just announced they shipped over 1 million units of Bento, their personal database tool currently available for iPhone, iPad and Mac. Originally released in 2008, Bento is now available in seven languages with dedicated clients for iPhone and iPad ($4.99) that sync with Bento for Mac currently available on the Mac App Store for $49.99. Apple supplier Luxshare, which is responsible for making AirPods and some parts of iPhones, iPads, and Macs, has been accused by Taiwanese prosecutors of stealing commercial secrets from a local supplier and poaching its workforce to win orders from Apple. The prosecutors have charged 14 people. As reported by Reuters, Taiwan wants to stop what it views as “underhand and illegal activities by Chinese firms to steal know-how and poach away talent in what Taipei’s government views as a threat to the island’s tech prowess....

Angela Ahrendts tweeted from the event (above) and took photos with visitors (below). The store is at 940 Madison Avenue on the corner of 74th St, a block from Central Park. We noted previously that the almost 100-year old building that Apple restored used to be a bank which included a vault that Apple turned into a VIP room for Apple Watch Edition try ons....

A number of Apple patents and applications have been published today, one of which details an interesting new design for the packaging of iOS devices that would also double as a stand or dock of sorts. The patent application was originally filed in May 2011, but it was published today by the United States Patent and Trademark Office and detailed by PatentlyApple. The image above is pretty self-explanatory, showing iPod nano-like packaging with a removable lid and base that transform into a dock or stand for the device....

Apple TV+ is one of the latest streaming services to hit the market - along with The Walt Disney Company’s Disney+, which released the same month - but beyond its content, between the critics and users, the Apple-created service is the most polarizing one out right now. Two of Apple’s content creation apps for iOS have been updated this afternoon following the release of iOS 13. Apple has updated Clips for iOS and iMovie for iOS with Dark Mode support and more. For iMovie, Apple has added support for Dark Mode, meaning the app will now match your system settings on iOS. There’s also support for accessing files from external hard drives, as well as the new Share sheet in iOS 13....

Apple device users can now download iOS 12.1 public beta which follows the developer preview. Following the iOS 12.1 developer beta, the public version of the software brings the group facetime feature. The group facetime now allows for a 32-way video chat. Also, it packs landscape orientation for Face ID. This feature may be dedicated for the iPad only. Also, the iOS 12.1 brings support for clickable thumbsticks on MFi game controllers....

Apple Watch sales estimated around 1.5 million units during Q1 2016 made it the number one smartwatch, but the device continued to trail basic wearables from competitors Fitbit and Xiaomi. During the quarter both companies more than doubled Apple Watch sales, according to the latest data out today from industry watcher IDC. IDC estimates that Apple sold 1.5 million units in Q1 of this year and notes the company introduced some post-holiday discounts on its Sport Watch model to help achieve that number....
