Marvel Comics editor-in-chief C.B. Cebulski has shared his praises for Warner Bros.’ latest entry in the DCEU franchise, Aquaman. The film currently claims the #3 spot on the DCEU’s worldwide box office chart, coming in right behind 2017’s well-received Wonder Woman. While Aquaman scored the lowest domestic opening for the DCEU franchise, it has still been receiving generally positive reviews. Prior to its release, the superhero movie managed to take in nearly $3 million from early screenings, and it has been dominating the box office ever since....

What DC’s Aquaman movie lacks in refinement, it makes up for with action spectacle and a whole lot of fun personality from Momoa’s Arthur Curry. Warner Bros. and DC Films launched a shared universe of interconnected DC Comics-based movies with Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel in 2013, then vastly expanded the world three years later with Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. However, though Batman V Superman and fellow 2016 release Suicide Squad were financially successful, neither were received well by critics....

The Disney animated musical fantasy film Aladdin was a hit back in 1992, so it’s no surprise that the movie was resurrected by Guy Ritchie and turned into a live action interpretation this year. The movie has, unsurprisingly, beaten all expectations at the box office to become a bona fide Disney hit. The story follows Aladdin, an Arabian street urchin who gets caught up with a princess, an evil Royal Vizier, and a magic lamp that can grant him three wishes....

As of today, you no longer need an AT&T plan to purchase an iPhone at an Apple Store. Apple’s new policy is that anyone can walk into an Apple Store and pick up an iPhone 8GB for $499, 16GB for $599 and 32GB for $699. They will allow one unit per customer per day up to 10 iPhones. The iPhones are still locked to AT&T’s network so unless you are going to jailbreak it (and I guess that is the assumption), you are still on AT&T....

A new report this weekend from the SF Chronicle highlights Apple’s push to lower its tax burden in its home county of Santa Clara in California. The report explains that Apple is the leading appealer of tax assessments in the county, with over 400 open cases since 2004. The report says that Apple currently has 489 open tax assessment appeals since 2004. The company is disputing $8.5 billion in property value, something that is common among tech companies in Silicon Valley....

The bestselling novel Dear Edward is set to become a TV show on Apple TV+, the company has announced. Connie Britton, Taylor Schilling, Colin O’Brien, and more will star in the show. Following the announcement that Apple CFO Peter Oppenheimer will be retiring in September, the Australian Financial Review has uncovered evidence of a scheme that it says has allowed Apple to move around $9 billion in untaxed Aussie profit to Ireland. The program has allowed Apple to get away with paying only $200 million in taxes on $8.9 billion in profit over the past ten years or so. Here’s how the whole thing works: Apple has created an Ireland-based company known as Apple Sales International which contributes money toward the research and development budget in Cupertino....

Earlier this week, Apple made a move that many expected wouldn’t happen — the iPad adopted USB-C. That aligns it with much of the industry, including most Android makers, but at the same time, the tablet also dropped its 3.5mm headphone jack. That led to an Apple USB-C to 3.5mm headphone jack adapter, and it’s currently the best one you can get for an Android device. Headphone jacks are disappearing left and right, and you’re either fine with that or you really hate it....

The Apple Watch fall detection feature is being credit with helping a user reach emergency services in Phoenix, Arizona recently. According to a report from local news outlet KTAR, an Apple Watch user fainted and collapsed, and the fall detection feature kicked in to contact 911. According to the Chandler Police Department’s Communications Center, the Apple Watch successfully called 911 and provided the “near-exact” location of the man who had fainted, allowing dispatchers to send help:...

Apple has today been awarded a patent for technology intended for use in a ‘circular display.’ The patent text specifically references a wristwatch as one application, and one of the illustrations looks very much like a watch … The patent itself is for a particular approach to handling the challenges posed by circular displays. The specifics get very technical very fast, so we’ll leave you to read the patent for yourself if you’re interested....

Now that the first trailer for Aquaman has arrived, it’s clear just how much the next DC movie will draw from the comics. That’s a big plus for comic fans who were hoping to see Jason Momoa in the classic Aquaman suit, or fans of Geoff Johns’ origin story told in the New 52. But the extra time and details revealed have raised one question, with implications far beyond one Aquaman movie....

Apple has announced this evening that its fiscal first quarter earnings call will take place on Tuesday, January 26th at the usual time 2PM PT/5PM ET, with the earnings release dropping roughly thirty minutes before that. The call will report earnings for the three-month period ending this month. Given that these results will cover the holiday shopping season, we should expect strong numbers from Apple. This is also the first full quarter during which the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus have been available, as well as the iPad Pro....

While the US stock market has been improving during the month of March, there’s a clear leader – Apple. Reported by Bloomberg, the Cupertino company gained for 11 straight trading days on the NYSE. This is its longest streak since 2003 – before the first iPhone launched. Apple is also nearing a $3 trillion market cap. This stock market improvement comes despite multiple setbacks for consumers. Earlier this week, Apple announced it is decreasing production of the iPhone SE 3 by at least 20%....

Amid their goal to even out prices internationally with those in the United States, Apple has raised prices (and lowered!) for applications across the international App Store. Of note for the UK, a 99 cent application (U.S.) now costs £0.69 up from the £0.59 of yesterday. Additionally, apps which were £1.19 are now £1.49. These changes are also international with a slight price drop in Switzerland and in Japan. Apps in Japan now start at 85 Yen versus the 115 Yen of yesterday....

During its Worldwide Developers Conference keynote, Apple demoed a new app called “Passbook” with its unveiling of iOS 6. The app allows you to manage boarding passes, movie tickets, store cards, and other passes that have QR codes, barcodes, or visual, scannable codes. Scott Forstall demonstrated how the feature is integrated into the iOS 6 lock screen by allowing cards or tickets to be displayed when—for instance—walking by a movie theatre....

Apple has been slowing the hiring of Geniuses at some retail stores. While not on an actual hiring freeze, those close to the matter report Genius positions are not being filled after employee departures. Seen as a cost-cutting move by some, the tech giant has also retracted several verbal job offers for some Genius roles. Reported by Bloomberg, this hiring slowdown has left a handful of technical positions open at retail stores across the United States....

After bringing the iTunes Festival to the US earlier this year at Austin SXSW, Apple’s annual music event in London kicking off next week has been the focus of much of the company’s attention recently. Earlier this week, Apple’s newly acquired Beats Music began promoting the iTunes Festival with a contest within the app to attend the festival. Apple will begin selling an unlocked version of its iPhone 5 through its online store as soon as 9 PM tonight, according to our retail sources. The unlocked iPhone 5 price range will likely be $649, $749, and $849 depending on a choice of either 16GB, 32GB, or 64GB of storage. Additionally, Apple’s chain of retail stores will begin selling the unlocked devices soon, but have yet to be provided a start sales date....

Apple TV+ is expanding its franchises beyond the raw TV episodes of the shows. Sesame Workshop is now releasing books to coincide with the Ghostwriter Apple TV+ series. Ghostwriter-branded versions of Alice in Wonderland and The Jungle Book are out now. The cover of each book features prominent branding including a ‘Watch Ghostwriter on Apple TV+’ sticker. In addition to classics, Ghostwriter features some narratives centering around new original stories like Trinity, which will be published by Sesame Workshop for the first time at the end of December....
