Three days after releasing the RC version of iOS 15.6, which was technically the version that would be available to all users soon, Apple is now seeding a second Release Candidate version of iOS 15.6. Here’s what’s new with this update. Today’s build is 19G71. The previous one was 19G69. It’s unclear what’s changed between both versions, although Apple had probably found a critical bug that needed to be corrected before releasing the public version to all users in the near future....

WWDC 2011 fever is officially happening. The Wall St. Journal reports: Earlier, CNet reported that Apple was also rushing to sign up movie studios: According to these people, deals with three labels have been completed, and the fourth, with Vivendi SA’s Universal Music Group, is likely to be signed this week. Apple has signed deals with Warner Music Group Corp., Sony Corp.’s Sony Music Entertainment and EMI Group Ltd. A tell tale sign that Apple has accomplished something in terms securing something for the WWDC keynote is that they released iWork for iOS today meaning it got bumped....

People awaiting iPads in the Czech Republic were told they’d be in the first group of countries (outside the US) to get an iPad on March 25th. We’re not sure why but the Czech Republic iPad website now shows they just got pushed back a month. (for those not in the know, Dubna=April). The second season of Apple TV+’s original comedy/drama Dickinson will debut this Friday, January 8. Ahead of that debut, Apple will hold a virtual “advance screening” of the new season on January 7 at 5 p.m. PT / 8 p.m. ET. Those interested in joining can apply for tickets on Apple’s website. Apple today has further expanded its TV application on iOS and tvOS. Following the addition of a dedicated Sports section a few months ago, users can now use the TV app to access live streaming news content from several different sources… While not as extensive as the Sports interface, the News section in the TV app allows users to instantly access live streaming news content from several different networks. You get direct access to CBS News, CNN, Fox News, Cheddar, CNBC, and Bloomberg....

Last week Apple sent out invites for an education focused event set to take place in New York City this Thursday, Jan. 19 at the Guggenheim museum. Apple acquired the popular hyperlocal weather app Dark Sky back in March of 2020, and the app is currently slated to be shut down at the end of 2022. Nonetheless, the app continues to receive updates with bug fixes, performance improvements, and other tweaks despite the looming shutdown. Apple today has rolled out version 6.8.7 of Dark Sky for iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch. This is the app’s second update in 2021, and the fourth since Apple’s acquisition was announced....

Apple’s next Apple Watch Activity Challenge is officially here. Apple’s annual “Ring in the New Year” challenge will run until the end of the month, and it encourages Apple Watch users to close all three rings for seven days in a row. Originally released back in October, Apple partnered with French leather fashion company Hermès for a lineup of high-end leather bands for the Apple Watch. The Hermès bands, however, have only been available from Apple stores and Hermès stores in big cities like Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York, and Miami. UK-based electronics repair site iPhonefixed has gotten its hands on one of the sapphire crystal displays to be used in the mid-range and high-end Apple Watch models and put it through a bevy of quick scratch tests to see how it would fare. After taking everything from sandpaper to a hammer and even a power drill to the cover, iPhonefixed’s testers were unable to put so much as a scratch on the sapphire surface....

Reuters reports (via Techmeme) that Apple has persuaded a Japanese court that Samsung did indeed infringe its patent of the rubber-banding or bounce-back user-interface feature. The ruling, due to be announced in detail later today, means that Samsung may have to withdraw from sale in Japan some of its early models that incorporate the feature.
