Apple has announced today that it will release its earnings report for the fiscal third quarter of 2021 on July 27. As usual, the company will release its Q2 2021 earnings report, then hold a conference call with investors and analysts to provide more detail. Apple’s fiscal Q3 2021 earnings will follow a record-setting Q2 2021 in which the company reported $89.6 billion in revenue and profit of $23.6 billion. Apple did not provide guidance for what to expect in Q3 2021, but it did warn that chip shortages could impact its businesses, particularly the Mac and the iPad....

Roughly two weeks after the initial release, Apple has pushed out an update to users testing the iOS 9 public beta on iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. The Apple Store is down ritual is back for a second time this week as the company launched orders for AirTag and the new purple iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini. However, orders don’t start until 5 AM PT so you’ve still got 3.5 hours before Apple’s new devices go on sale. The AirTag enables users to track items and find them when they are lost. Available individually for $29 or as a 4-pack for $99, AirTags integrate with the Find My app....

Claris, the Apple subsidiary formerly known as FileMaker, has today announced the next-generation of its low-code FileMaker platform. FileMaker 19 will enable developers to build custom applications while integrating with third-party libraries for the first time. Claris touts that the new support for third-party libraries in FileMaker 19 will allow developers to “rapidly build sophisticated custom apps” that leverage integration with JavaScript, AI with Apple’s CoreML, and much more. If you buy an Apple Gift Card or add money to your Apple ID, the balance can be used to buy products in the Apple Store as well as apps, songs, movies, and subscriptions. Currently, users can check this balance by going to the App Store or by adding the iTunes Pass to the Wallet app. At the same time, this pass has a QR Code that can be used to purchase products in Apple Retail Stores....

Apple TV Plus has a fixed price of $4.99 per month, with a 7-day trial open to any newcomers. If you buy an eligible Apple device you’ll get an entire year for free, which is a nice bonus if you were going to upgrade anyway. Back in August, Apple announced that long-time senior vice president of worldwide marketing would transition to a new Apple Fellow position, with Greg Joswiak moving into Schiller’s role. To get FDA approval for the ECG feature in the new Apple Watch Series 4, Apple had to provide data from a heart study in which half the participants had AFib and half didn’t. The study provided to the Food and Drug Administration showed that the Watch was more than 98% accurate at detecting atrial fibrillation … For some bizarre reason, a Quartz piece on this was headlined The new heart-monitoring capabilities on the Apple Watch aren’t all that impressive....

Inflation is hitting us all, apparently. The front page for the iPhone section of Apple’s website is currently experiencing a little glitch where the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro are being advertised at the low, low, price of $777,777 per month — before trade-in. Apple released iOS 13.7 for everyone last week, which includes a major expansion of the COVID-19 Exposure Notification platform. Following this release, Apple has today stopped signing iOS 13.6.1. That means users can no longer downgrade from iOS 13.7 to iOS 13.6.1. iOS 13.7 lets users enable COVID-19 Exposure Notifications directly in the Settings app on their iPhone. Once you enable exposure notifications in the Settings app, your iPhone will begin monitoring with Bluetooth to log possible exposures so you can be notified of a potential COVID-19 exposure based on the guidelines set by your local public health authority....

The United States Computer Emergency Readiness Team has today issued a new note in which it revealed that Apple has no further plans to provide security updates for QuickTime for Windows. The note follows an earlier report from Trend Micro and comes as two new vulnerabilities have been discovered that could affect QuickTime for Windows users. The two new vulnerabilities are heap-corruption-based remote code execution vulnerabilities, which essentially means that an attacker could gain access to a user’s computer by tricking them in to downloading a file from the web....

You might have thought that the health & fitness labs Apple created to help develop the Apple Watch might have been closed once the product had launched, but a piece in Time reports that they are still operating 12 hours a day, six days a week. ABC gave us a look inside one of the labs in the run-up to the launch of the Watch last year, when we learned that they include climate chambers which allow the company to simulate a wide range of different environments, but this latest report does include a new claim …...

Internally called “Madison,” the new feature will allow users to share the same Apple Card with other family members through iCloud Family Sharing. The Apple Card owner can invite other people to share their card and track everyone’s spending on the Wallet app. The code also suggests that the Daily Cash will also be available for family members. iOS 14.5 code confirms that the card owner can set a spending limit for each invited user....

After a series of botched updates, which meant HealthKit apps could not launch alongside iOS 8’s release, Apple has finally started allowing apps that integrate with the Health app into the App Store. The first of many is FitPort, which acts as a replacement dashboard for Health information, with all data being synced back into the Health database. On opening the app, the Health permissions screen opens which asks users to individually enable access to health statistics....

Apple today released the first public version of iPadOS 13.1 to users. In conjunction with that, Apple has shared a new update on its developer website detailing that starting in April of 2020, developers must build their iPad applications with the iOS 13 SDK. Apple says that iPadOS allows developers to tap into new multitasking features, Dark Mode, Sign in with Apple, and more. Starting April 2020, Apple says all iPad apps must be built with the iOS 13 SDK and support the all-screen design of the 12....

Apple has announced a new Apple Pay initiative to raise funds for the National Parks Foundation, running for the first half of July. Tim Cook explained why the company is doing it … Apple said that the money raised would be primarily used to support conservation projects and enrich youth programs designed to inspire the next generation of park enthusiasts. On July 15 (only), Apple Watch owners will also get the chance to earn a special activity badge and sticker set for use in the iPhone Messages app....
