Following this morning’s report that Apple’s grand spaceship campus introduced by Steve Jobs in 2011 won’t open until mid-2016, Apple has sent its revised plans to the city of Cupertino this afternoon. The 176-acre campus was originally slated to complete in 2015 after the company was set to start work this year; however, the City of Cupertino still needs to complete an environmental review. Apple notified Cupertino of the time-frame change in the updated project proposal and added, “This schedule may be modified to meet Apple’s business needs....

As you’d expect, the topic of conversation was all things environmental issues at Apple and Jackson talks about many of the accomplishments the company recently announced for Earth Day. In addition to just stats and Apple’s renewable energy initiatives— Apple’s supply chain is responsible for 60% of its footprint— she also gives some hints at what Apple plans to improve in the future....

An Apple Watch with Touch ID sensor has been on the wishlists of many people for quite some time now. A new Apple patent application published today shows that Apple is at least considering the idea. It follows a similar patent for embedding a Touch ID sensor into an iPhone power button… The iPhone application was made back in 2015, and granted in 2017, while the Apple Watch application was filed in November 2018 but only published today....

A leaked AppleCare+ document reveals that Apple plans to tweak the program for international travelers later this week. The changes will allow iPhone 5 owners who travel out of the country in which they purchased their phone to receive replacement devices from international Apple retail stores and authorized repair centers. The updated policy covers customers traveling to Brazil, China, India, Korea, the Middle East, Russia, Taiwan, Turkey, the United States Canada, and more....

MacRumors has discovered a new addition to the iTunes App Store update page and that is a new sentence hinting at an upcoming feature called Automatic Download. The greater meaning of Automatic Download is not completely clear at this point but it seems as if Apple will give iOS users the option to have their iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch automatically download and install App Store app updates. The leak also hints at this being an option, so perhaps Apple has an iOS update up its sleeve for an imminent release....

Apple has made some changes to the way it handles content ratings in the App Store, as outlined in an email (included below) sent to developers today. These ratings aren’t the five-star reviews that users assign apps, but the age-based restrictions assigned to each app based on the type of content in the app. While most apps are rated 4+ (the lowest), some that contain violent or potentially offensive content may have higher ratings (as seen above)....

In conjunction with the release of iOS 12 today, Apple has released a new version of its iOS Security Guide. This update includes new details on the Secure Enclave, DFU and recovery mode, Screen Time, Shortcuts, and more. Apple releases updated versions of its Security Guide several times per year, generally coinciding with the release of a major new iOS update or feature. For instance, alongside the iPhone X, it released a new version of the Security Guide with details on Face ID....

Apple’s new iMac Pro is now available to order with a December 27th arrival date for the first deliveries. Along with the new machine, Apple is also updating its flagship software including Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro X. While we are seeing some major updates to Apple’s professional video editing suite, Logic Pro X is also getting iMac Pro support and other improvements today. Apple has now optimized Logic Pro X to support up to 36 cores along with a series of stability and performance enhancements....

Apple Watch has been an excellent swim tracker since gaining stronger water resistance and aquatic workouts with Series 2 – the device has since evolved into a must-have swimming companion and lifeguard of sorts. That’s what happened in Oregon last week when first responders were able to rescue a trapped swimmer who called 911 from her Apple Watch. Following yesterday’s challenge in honor of Veterans Day, Apple has already set its next Apple Watch Activity Challenge. As first spotted by Kyle Seth Gray on Twitter, Apple is holding an Activity Challenge for Thanksgiving later this month. You can earn this award by completing any walk, run, or wheelchair workout of at least 5K – or 3.1 miles – in distance. If you complete the challenge, Apple will reward you with exclusive badges in the Activity app, as well as stickers for use in Messages and FaceTime....

Apple has confirmed on its website that it will live stream its October event at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, which it sent out invites to press for earlier today. You can add the event to your calendar so you don’t forget from the page, which kicks off at 10 AM EDT. Note the timezone … The Academy of Music is a new venue for Apple events, but unlike the March event which was held at a school, it will be streamed....

Apple’s augmented reality focus has so far been on iPhones and iPads, but AR on MacBooks may also be in the company’s sights. A new patent granted today could be useful for both conventional games and AR applications. The patent for virtual positioning of audio sources builds on one granted last month… Apple’s previous patent, on a method of virtually positioning people in a room when listening through headphones, focused on a business application – but we noted at the time that AR seemed another obvious use....
