Apple subsidiary FileMaker has announced a new version of their flagship software product, FileMaker 12, with new database creation tools and themes. The Mac version of FileMaker 12 gain improved 64 bit support as well as wide area network support, enhance support for large databases, and add fast file and multimedia-content streaming. Database and project creation are now easier and faster with new and more intuitive themes on the Mac. The most important addition to the product is its more streamlined interface for creating interfaces that run on iPads, iPhones, and iPod touches....

Apple has today confirmed the 70 new emoji that will be coming to iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, and Mac this fall. Announced in a newsroom post, Apple shared details about the new set of emoji that will become available to users with Unicode 11. As detailed by Emojipedia earlier this year, Unicode 11 means a total 2,832 emoji (including all variants) will be available. Apple highlighted the diversity of options today....

With every new major version of macOS comes a new codename. Since 2013, versions of macOS have been named after beautiful places in California. So far, we’ve had: Mavericks, Yosemite, El Capitan, Sierra, High Sierra, Mojave, Catalina, and Big Sur. Apple has updated the Apple Online Store portal for tracking your orders with a fresh new look, befitting the more modern iOS and macOS aesthetics with bold fonts and large photos. Yesterday’s report that we may see Apple Watch blood glucose monitoring when the Series 7 is released this year has generated both excitement and skepticism. Excitement because it could provide a far easier method of monitoring blood sugar levels than current devices, which require a pin-prick blood sample. Skepticism because non-invasive measurement has been a goal for a great many years, with very limited success to date. The closest we’ve got so far is a rice-grain sized sensor embedded into the skin that can then be read without any further puncturing of the skin…...

However, we can easily imagine that these apps will be available for PC users since iTunes was discontinued in 2019 with the release of macOS Catalina. Although Apple still offers an iTunes version for Windows, the app hasn’t received new features for some time now, and the experience of accessing Apple Music and Apple Podcasts through iTunes is not good. When Apple started looking for engineers to work on new Windows apps, the company emphasized that the job required experience with the Universal Windows Platform (UWP), which is basically the modern Windows app platform....

Warner Bros. and DC Films tried to quickly build a comic book cinematic universe, but had some problems along the way with the long-term vision and reception. It was Wonder Woman that first showed how these movies could exist in a larger universe without needing to go overboard with connecting it to other films, and Aquaman took that example and ran with it....

In a video sent directly to Apple Store employees, newly appointed Senior Vice President of Apple Retail John Browett has promised a three month advance on employee salary raises. Apple Store employees were previously scheduled to see their raises on September 30th of this year, but now these raises will come on June 30th. These raises come in addition to the Mac and iPad discounts promised by Apple CEO Tim Cook earlier this year....

Two separate market share reports show that Apple increased its share of the global smartphone market year-on-year, with Samsung’s share declining. Strategy Analytics estimates that Apple grew its market share from 12.2% in Q3 2014 to 13.6% in Q3 2015, while Counterpoint has the numbers at 11.9% to 13.1% … Both agree that Samsung’s share fell in the same period, from 24.5% to 23.7% according to Strategy Analytics, while Counterpoint reports 23....

Apple’s decision to end the Xserve has attracted criticism from some of the company’s existing enterprise users — critics who’ve managed to raise their voices on CNN. What is interesting is that despite their general displeasure at being given just four months to plan the change away from Xserve, “many Xserve customers say they’re sticking with the Mac plaform.” Indeed, a survey of 1,200 Xserve customers conducted by the Enterprise Desktop Alliance found that 70% of Xserve customers say Apple’s announcement will have no impact on their organization’s decision to buy new Macs....

When attempting to do so, either nothing happens, or an error message results … The outage appears to be a major one, with both the main store page and individual product pages failing to load....

The saga of the LG UltraFine display mystery continues. After the disappearance of the LG 4K UltraFine display from the Apple Store, and the continued lack of availability for the 5K UltraFine, the plot thickens with the discovery from TidBITS that you can now buy a new 23.7-inch LG display from Apple that is otherwise unlisted. The seemingly-unannounced display is priced at $699. This is the same price as the ‘old’ 21-inch 4K LG UltraFine, and a few hundred dollars below the sale price of the 5K sibling....

Key Apple supply chain partner Foxconn has now broken ground on its first plant in the United States. The Wisconsin factory project is estimated to cost $10 billion and create thousands of jobs. President Donald Trump attended the construction launch, who has said he hopes this project will help kickstart a wave of US manufacturing, with less reliance on Asia. When completed, the factory will manufacture LCD screen panels. Foxconn is hoping to use the plant to make ultra-high-definition televisions to sell directly into the US market....

Apple Corporate Treasurer Gary Wipfler is now leaving the company, according to sources familiar with the matter. Wipfler, who is 62 years old, worked for Apple for more than 35 years and was responsible for managing the company’s $194 billion in cash. Wipfler’s retirement was first reported by Bloomberg sources, but neither the executive nor Apple have confirmed the news so far. According to his LinkedIn page, Wipfler joined Apple in August 1986 – two years after the introduction of the first Macintosh and a year after Steve Jobs left Apple....

Apple today introduced the new Apple Watch SE. The new Apple Watch SE has the same design as the Apple Watch Series 4 and later, but it comes with the S5 chip, built-in compass, and watchOS 7 preinstalled. The new Apple Watch SE will be available in 40mm and 44mm with GPS and Cellular versions. It comes with new bands and watch faces, as well as Apple Watch Series 6....

Last summer, Apple lost a lawsuit over LTE patents filed by Optis Wireless, resulting in damages of $506 million. At the time, Apple said it would appeal the decision and today, a federal judge threw out those damages and ruled that Apple should be able to argue whether the royalty demands were fair.
