In line with a rumor from earlier this week, we’ve heard from our sources that AppleCare+ is indeed set to soon launch in Europe. AppleCare+ is Apple’s premium support service, and it provides customers with technical support for both the iPhone and iPad for two years from the original purchase date. AppleCare+ also provides support for up to two instances of accidental damage. We understand that the launch is “imminent,” but no formal launch date has been announced internally....

Apple’s site confirms that its new store in Dusseldorf – its 13th German store – will open at 10am on Saturday. The first 1000 visitors to the store will reportedly receive an Apple t-shirt. German site Macerkopf first spotted job listings for the store back in February following rumors dating back to May 2011. The store is located in Dusseldorf Köbogen, a brand-new upmarket shopping center with stores featuring a number of luxury brands, at Königsallee 2....

In response to new regulatory pressures, Apple announced earlier this month that it would allow developers of dating applications in the Netherlands to use alternative payment systems. The Dutch Authority for Consumers and Markets has now published its own press release, saying that Apple’s announcement “fails to satisfy” the requirement set forth by the competition commission. Apple’s original announcement was relatively vague and didn’t elaborate on many details of its planned changes....

As 2018 winds down, Apple plans to fulfill its promise of three retail store openings in Japan by the end of the year. After 11 months of renovation work, Apple Shibuya is set to reopen October 26th. When Shibuya’s store closed for remodeling last November, Apple reassured customers that it wouldn’t leave the city. Traffic to the Tokyo location was instead diverted to Apple Omotesando during construction. The modest, multi-level store has been in progress for an unusual amount of time for its size, so changes are likely to be significant and more in-depth than simply a Today at Apple Video Wall and new fixtures....

During its September iPhone event today, Apple has announced the successor to its 2018 9.7-inch iPad, the new 10.2-inch iPad. The new entry-level iPad arrives roughly a year and a half after Apple launched the 9.7-inch iPad back in March last year. The new iPad includes a larger display coming in at 10.2 inches. That’s just shy of the 10.5-inch screen that Apple included in the revived iPad Air 3 that landed six months ago....

We’ve heard several stories thus far about the Apple Watch’s ECG functionality saving people’s lives. Now, an Apple Watch user in Washington has credited his Apple Watch with alerting him that his atrial fibrillation had returned. According to local news outlet KIRO, cardiologist Dr. Phil Massey of Pacific Medical Centers had a patient come into the hospital after his Apple Watch indicated he had an irregular heart rhythm. The patient had been treated for atrial fibrillation in the past, but A-fib can be intermittent....

The Apple Watch Series 4 has today been crowned one of the “Displays of the Year” by The Society for Information Display. The award is given to “display products with the most significant technological advances and/or outstanding features.” This year makes the 25th annual Display Industry Awards. The winners were announced at Display Week in San Jose, California. Dr. Wei Chan, chairperson of the Display Industry Awards committee, touted that the annual event serves as an opportunity to showcase innovative display advancements....

One of the most impressive features shown in the Apple keynote was the Apple Watch Ultra dive computer functionality. This effectively allows the new rugged watch to completely replace a dedicated dive computer. A creative fan combined the posters for Aquaman and The Meg. Aquaman is the latest film in the unofficially titled DC Extended Universe. It follows up last year’s Justice League and focuses on the character of Aquaman aka Arthur Curry played by Jason Momoa. Aquaman was initially introduced in a quick scene in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. The bulk of his action and character development so far came in Justice League, but his part of the superhero universe will be further explored in Aquaman....

The demonic doll called Annabelle will make a cameo in James Wan’s upcoming Aquaman movie. The evil doll was first adapted for the big screen in 2013 for the horror film The Conjuring. After the film’s success, the doll was given a spinoff film titled Annabelle, and a sequel three years later called Annabelle: Creation. Annabelle was also briefly seen in The Conjuring 2. Wan, of course, started The Conjuring universe, which currently includes a total of five films, but he directed many popular horror films before 2013....

The Aquaman movie poster features Jason Momoa’s Arthur Curry front and center; the one-sheet arrives ahead of the first Aquaman trailer dropping at Comic-Con 2018 later this week. Warner Bros. is taking a long break between their last DC Films’ universe release - Justice League in November 2017 - and their next upcoming movie. James Wan’s Aquaman hits theaters in December and will follow the Justice League standout on an adventure of his own....

Earlier this month Apple seeded the first beta versions of Safari 7.1 (for Mavericks) and 6.2 (for Mountain Lion) to developers. Tonight a second beta has been published. Interestingly, aside from the focus areas outlined with the previous beta, Apple is also requesting that developers taking this beta for a spin try out the password and credit card auto-fill feature. The 7.1 and 6.2 updates are expected to be the last big updates to those specific versions of Apple’s browser before the release of OS X Yosemite, which ships with Safari 8....

While Apple says it usually shuts down a store when 10% of staff members test positive for COVID-19, an Apple Store manager who prefers to remain anonymous mentions how overwhelmed employees are, since at least 25% of the team in their store is currently on leave due to testing positive for COVID-19 and exposure to COVID-19. Another report from an Apple Store leader complains about how the company has been softening control measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in its stores located in Brazil....

A new report from The Telegraph this weekend claims that Apple Store suppliers have been “forced” by the company to accept more stringent terms to sell their products in Apple Stores and on the Apple Online Store. Suppliers cited in the report describe being “squeezed” by Apple through these new terms. Through its retail and online stores, Apple sells accessories and products made by third-party companies. This includes things like iPhone cases, smart home accessories, Mac peripherals, and more....
