Akira Yoshino, a Nobel Prize winner in chemistry for his work on Lithium-ion batteries, spoke with Reuters about the electric future and the Apple Car. Yoshino predicts that Apple will announce its plans to build a car sooner rather than later. According to Yoshino, with all the changes expected in the next few years, Apple can’t wait much longer to announce something about the Apple Car, so he expects an announcement by the end of this year....

Apple TV+ has announced that the “coming-of-age drama series” Little Voice will premiere on Friday, July 10. This half-hour series comes from J.J. Abrams, Sara Bareilles, and Jessie Nelson. We’ve also got rumors of a new Apple TV+ series reportedly based on Gawker, as well as Daytime Emmy nominations. Little Voice features original music from singer-songwriter Sara Bareilles. The show is described as a “half-hour coming-of-age drama series” that is “fresh” and “intensely romantic....

Apple today has updated its Human Interface Guidelines for augmented reality to reflect the new features introduced in ARKit 1.5, which comes as part of iOS 11.3. The new guidelines cover things such as support for vertical surfaces, objects that are placed offscreen, and more. First off, Apple encourages developers to “guide people towards offscreen virtual objects.” The company explains that it can be difficult for users to locate an object that’s not position onscreen, and thus indicators could help users navigate to those objects easier:...

We told you earlier this week that Microsoft published a new support document to address the “continuous loop” exchange bug on iOS devices running iOS 6.1. Apple will start selling fully unlocked, SIM-free iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus models in the United States beginning tomorrow, January 6th, according to several sources. The unlocked iPhones will be available both via Apple’s physical retail stores and online store… Currently, Apple sells the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus in the U.S. either via a carrier contract or unlocked on T-Mobile. Tomorrow’s change means that Apple will sell the latest iPhone models with no SIM-card so that customers can use the phone anywhere in the world on any supported carrier by bringing along their own SIM-card....

An Apple Watch patent granted today describes the inclusion of one or more cameras capable of photographing the user, hinting at Face ID on the Watch. The patent also describes how sensors in a smart band could be used to analyze sports performance in such activities as football, baseball, and golf… The patent application was originally made in September 2017, and was granted today. The main focus is on the smart band, explaining how sensors could be used for sports coaching....

Last month Re/code’s John Paczkowski reported that Apple plans to introduce its new iPhone models at an event scheduled for next month, and today Re/code’s Paczkowski reports that Apple will also reveal its wearable product (i.e. iWatch/iBand) alongside the new iPhones: Re/code previously reported that Apple was targeting October for holding an event to show off its health-focused wearable device, and today’s report mentions that an October event for other products could still be in Apple’s plans....

Apple this week released iOS 13.3 to the public, which includes a new Communication Limits feature for Screen Time. A new report from CNBC, however, explains that the feature doesn’t exactly work as it’s designed to. By design, Communication Limits in Screen Time are meant to let parents control who their kids can talk to and when they can talk to them. In its most basic form, Communication Limits block children from communicating with people who aren’t in their contacts, without parental approval....
