In a new report from The Information that details talks between Google and HP regarding a possible Google Now-like Android assistant for the workplace, the site claims that HP also approached Apple before the IBM partnership announced earlier this year. The idea is for employees to be able to ask their Android device for company information such as financial data or product inventory information in the same way they do routine personal searches for weather, traffic or restaurant locations....

Apple has added several new channels and cable internet services onto the new Apple TV universal search and Siri search today, following the addition of Fox and National Geographic earlier in the month. Today’s enhancements brings Watch ABC, Disney Channel, Disney Jr and Disney X.D into the mix allowing users to quickly search across these services in the Apple TV UI. As shown in the screenshot, Modern Family now lists ABC as a viewing option alongside Netflix, iTunes and Hulu....

Apple today has rolled out a pair of updates for its App Store Connect and TestFlight applications on iOS. The updates bring the former to version 1.0.1 and the latter to version 2.1. For App Store Connect users, the update ensures that the app will filter ratings and reviews by all territories by default, though if you apply filters, the app will remember those and save them. Apple first launched its App Store Connect application last month as a replacement for iTunes Connect....

Apple was today awarded a patent for touch-free, motion sensing gestures within 3D GUI concepts just as the company reassigns a patent related to 3D mapping technologies that it picked up through its acquisition of PrimeSense. AppleCare+ theft and loss cover is now available in France, Italy, and Spain. Previously, these countries only offered cover for accidental damage. This means that customers in these countries can now choose between two different versions of Apple’s insurance policy … Background AppleCare+ is an insurance policy that extends the warranty for a wide range of Apple products, as well as adding coverage for accidental damage. Today, Apple has updated its official App Store developers Review Guidelines to outline the requirements for iOS 8 applications that will make use of the new HealthKit, HomeKit, TestFlight, and Extensions services. Today’s update indicates that Apple is nearing the release of iOS 8, the next-generation mobile operating system for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch ahead of the September 9th Apple media event. Apple is firing back at Ericsson amid an ongoing dispute over pricing for patent licensing in regards to technology “critical” for mobile telecommunications. This comes after Ericsson sued Apple in the same court, accusing the company of negotiating in “bad faith.” As first reported by Bloomberg Law, Apple filed the lawsuit in a federal court in Texas on Friday. The company is accusing Ericsson of “violating its obligations to license patents essential to industry standards on fair rates and is making unreasonable demands....

First up, the two new tablets. A 12-inch tablet isn’t new news. In last one year, we’ve heard a lot of details about this baffling device and even seen plenty of purported images of it. The new information, however, is that the company plans to introduce two big iPads, which it likes to refer to as “J98″ and “J99” (codenames) for now. Also being referred to as the “iPad Pro,” the new tablets are said to be a larger version of the iPad Air 2....

Ahead of the launch of Apple TV+ later this year, Apple continues to expand the executive team around the service. The company has now added Danielle DePalma as a marketing executive for Apple TV shows and films. Deadline was first to report on the hire, noting that DePalma will serve as a manager in Apple’s video marketing team. She will report to Chris Van Amburg, Apple’s head of video marketing....

The latest beta software for the Apple TV brings one of iOS 8’s headline features to the (former) hobby device: iCloud Family Sharing. While the feature isn’t yet functional, it’s expected that users will be able to log into one account and access purchased music and movies, shared photos, and more from other devices on the same family sharing account… Family Sharing was introduced at WWDC earlier this year, and allows family members who share one credit card to access iTune, App Store, and iBooks purchases made by other users....

Apple has revealed a pair of notable changes to its AppleCare+ protection plans for iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Watch. With today’s changes, AppleCare+ now covers two incidents of accidental damage every 12 months, as well as a lower deductible for the AppleCare+ Theft or Loss plan. In the past, AppleCare+ covered only two incidents of accidental damage every 24 months, such as water damage, a cracked screen, or a cracked back....

Apple has recently gained a new TV provider for its Single Sign-on feature on iOS 10 and up as well as tvOS 10 and up. WOW!, or Wide Open West, joins 13 other providers that let customers authenticate once through the Settings app to access content in paid video apps in the United States. Wide Open West, which is the ninth largest cable provider in the country, hasn’t yet been added to Apple’s list of TV provider partners since it was updated earlier this month, but WOW!...

Following yesterday’s news that Qualcomm is seeking an import ban on iPhones as part of its patent royalty dispute with Apple, Imagination Technologies has filed a formal dispute over its own licensing arrangements with the iPhone maker … Reuters reports that the company made the decision after informal talks failed. The dispute between the two companies is over GPU designs that Apple licenses from Imagination for its iOS devices. Apple currently pays the company around 30 cents per device, but last month informed Imagination that it expected to begin using its own designs within two years....
