According to a new report from Variety, Apple will take over the lease at a new Culver City development after HBO pulled out. Apple is said to be leasing the entirety of a new 128,000-square-foot development, but specific plans for the location are unclear… The Real Deal first reported Apple’s plans, with Variety receiving confirmation from the mayor of Culver City. HBO was originally planned to be the sole tenant of the new development, but that deal fell through for unknown reasons....

Apple’s streaming platform has ordered a new live-action series from the popular MonsterVerse franchise. The idea is to bring an original Godzilla and Titans show produced by Legendary Television to Apple TV+. As reported by Variety, the untitled series will continue the story of MonsterVerse films like 2014’s Godzilla and Kong: Skull Island. The series is expected to explore a family’s journey to discover the secrets of a government organization known as Monarch, which plays an important role in the franchise as it works to “defend the world from creatures like Godzilla and the other Titans....

New details have landed about several Apple TV+ shows today. The international epic drama series Pachinko has been renewed for a second season, The Afterparty cast for season two has been revealed along with a teaser of the new plot, and a new Charlie Brown special is coming next week. As someone who’s spent the past three nights in a hotel room, the hotel TV experience feels stuck in 1998. The TV comes on to a customized hotel user interface with music that is way too loud, and then I have to arrow over to the TV menu to then actually watch TV. Anytime I use a traditional cable interface, I am reminded of why I cut the cord. It’s tedious to see what’s on, it’s slow to change to what I find, and it’s entirely the opposite of a modern Apple TV-type interface....

The jury for the second Apple vs Samsung patent case has now been selected after a number of potential jurors were dismissed for possible bias. Apple is seeking damages of up to $40 per device sold for those Samsung phones and tablets it says violate up to five Apple patents, while Samsung is counter-claiming that Apple devices violate two of its own patents. Unlike the previous trial, in which the similarity of Samsung’s hardware to iPhones and iPads was a key issue, the patents in dispute here are all software ones, and include standard Android features, leading some to suggest that Google is the real target in this case....

To add an ID card to the iPhone, the user will need to go through a few verification steps in order to prevent someone else from stealing their documents. Interestingly, this security verification will use selfies to validate the user. Validation through selfies is not exactly new as some banking apps already require selfies from users to authenticate access on new devices, but this system was all created by Apple using the built-in technologies of the iPhone....

Following its usual teardown of the Apple Watch, iFixit today released its first repair guides for Apple’s new device covering screen, NFC antenna, and battery replacements, as well as the process of safely replacing adhesives during repair. When it comes to the NFC antenna, iFixit warns that it’s easy to damage the component when opening the Apple Watch for any repair, meaning replacement or repair might be necessary: “Unfortunately, opening up your Apple Watch may damage the NFC antenna, which also serves as a gasketing seal....

Alongside the announcements of Apple Watch Series 6 and Apple Watch SE, Apple has started accepting trade-ins for Apple Watch Series 5. The previous-gen hardware is worth up to $240 for a direct trade-in when upgrading to a new Apple Watch. Up until today, Apple was only accepting trade-ins for Apple Watch Series 4 and earlier with the values topping out at $155. Now that pre-orders are already live for both the Apple Watch Series 6 and SE, Apple has updated its trade-in program to give a maximum of $240 credit for Series 5 watches....

Apple has just announced the 2018 fall event ‘Gather round’ where the company will announce its new flagship iPhone lineup, the Series 4 Apple Watch, redesigned iPad Pro hardware, and maybe some new Macs. Apple has confirmed on its website that it will indeed livestream the event, from 10 AM PT on September 12, live from the Steve Jobs Theater Apple will stream the event on its website like all of its flagship events in recent years....

If you’ve been eagerly waiting for the iPhone 6 to go on sale in your country, you may be in luck. While Apple has not yet made an official announcement of the next phase in its rollout of the iPhone 6/Plus, we’ve so far spotted that the new phones are scheduled to go on sale in at least ten (and counting) new countries on November 14th. Local carriers have so far announced the November 14th availability of the new iPhones in: Brazil, Philippines, Colombia, Costa Rica, Chile, Uruguay, Guatemala, Lebanon, Kenya and Nigeria, with Malaysia also looking set to see the phones around the same time …...

The latest clip, titled ‘The story behind “The Song”’, features musician Dana Williams (iTunes) and vocalist Rhiannon Giddens (iTunes) from the holiday ad as well as several people from Third Man Records where part of the vintage vocals were recorded. The new video talks about the Voice-O-Graph, used to record your voice to vinyl for recording an audio post card, then shows Williams’ going through the process of recording the old record she found in the ad and remixing it into GarageBand with her own performance....

After sharing its latest Environmental Responsibility report this morning, Apple this evening has added a new Earth Day 2015 section to the App Store. The section highlights content that contribute to environmental awareness, as well as apps that promote green living and going paperless. Further, Apple’s Earth Day 2015 section aggregates books, movies, iTunes U content, podcasts, and TV shows that relate to the Earth. Selections include the TV show “Planet Earth,” the movie “March of the Penguins,” the book “Environmental Debt,” the apps Evernote Scannable and Green Living, and various National Geographic magazines....

Apple is once again highlighting the iPhone 13’s camera features with its traditional “Shot on iPhone” campaign. This time, the company has shared on YouTube the short film “Life is But a Dream” made by South Korean director Park Chan-wook – which of course was shot entirely on iPhone 13 Pro. The 21-minute film tells the story of an undertaker who needs wood to build a coffin for the savior of his village and digs up an abandoned grave....

While this release didn’t seem to see any stage time during the WWDC keynote today, Apple has just opened up its Health Records API to developers. In a press release, Apple detailed the new API that’s available today. Aimed at health researchers along with developers, the Health Records API should spur all-new apps that will give end-users even better experiences with various doctors and hospitals. Apple says this change will now make it possible for patients to “share medical records from multiple hospitals with their favorite trusted apps, helping them improve their overall health....

Right about a year ago, Apple began enforcing its enterprise certificate policy for developers more strictly. It all started with Facebook who was abusing its certificate but it didn’t end there. Google’s account was pulled temporarily among a wave of others. Now another developer who was found to be abusing Apple’s policies has seen its account disabled. BuzzFeed recently discovered that Clearview AI was breaking Apple’s enterprise certificate policy with its distribution of apps....

At long last, Apple today has started rolling out web links and iTunes web previews for tvOS apps, similar to how links to iOS/Mac apps and iTunes content has worked for years now. As reported by MacStories, users will now be able to easily share links to fourth-gen Apple TV apps on their computer and subsequently be able to view app details, as well. Prior to this rollout, there was no first-party way to view tvOS apps and descriptions on the web, which meant that it was hard for discovery and sharing to occur on social media networks and even Apple’s own website....

Apple’s next media event is expected to happen on March 25, with a star-studded lineup of Hollywood guests expected to fill the Steve Jobs Theater as the company unveils its long rumored video streaming service. A report from Variety today, however, claims that sources close to the matter are warning that while Apple will in fact show off video clips from its original television content it’s been preparing, the full streaming service might not launch until as late as fall 2019....

Digitimes is reporting Apple has turned to manufacturers other than LG Display (specifically Samsung and Chimei Innolux) due to issues with the 9.7-inch panel they’ve been producing for the iPad 2. Apparently LGD was not only unable to meet its July orders by approximately 1 million units, but also failed to meet Apple’s requirements in impact tests. Due to the manufacturing issues with LGD, Digitimes reports they have now turned to alternate supplier (and rivals in the tablet market) Samsung....

Apple TV+ today unveiled a first look at new drama series ‘Swagger’. The series hails from show runner Reggie Rock Bythewood, Brian Grazer and NBA star Kevin Durant. Apple announced that the show will premiere with the first three episodes on October 29. The remainder of the ten-episode season will be released weekly. The series stars O’Shea Jackson Jr., Isaiah Hill, Quvenzhané Wallis and others. Jackson stars as Ike, a former star player who now coaches basketball for juniors....
