Apple has inked a new overall deal with Skydance Animation today that will bring feature films and TV shows to Apple TV+. As reported by the Hollywood Reporter, the new deal comes after reports surfaced suggesting Apple’s talks with Skydance Animation last year. The multi-year agreement will see Apple Original Films debut the animated movies Luck and Spellbound. These two movies were first set up at Paramount through a deal that allowed Skydance to “move the films around” at its discretion....

Apple is continuing its trend of updating its numerous iOS applications for iOS 13. This evening, the App Store Connect app for iOS has been updated with Dark Mode support, as well as stability improvements and bug fixes. With Dark Mode support, App Store Connect will now follow your system-wide iOS setting and adhere to a dark or light theme. Today, Apple has rolled out a number of fixes for its professional video editing Mac applications. Final Cut Pro X, Motion 5, and Compressor 4 update release notes are below: Final Cut Pro X version 10.0.7 The Letterbox effect “Offset” slider is restored. Fixes an issue that could occur when creating a single layer DVD. Fixes an issue in which some third-party effects could cause Final Cut Pro to stop responding during background rendering....

Apple has released a minor update to its TestFlight beta distribution app for iOS. Version 1.4.0 hit the App Store today and includes what Apple describes as ‘more robust support’ for watchOS beta apps for testing on Apple Watch. There’s also a bug fix and general improvements: Minor stability and performance improvements. The update follows other software releases this week including Apple’s recently launched Classroom app for educators using iPads, which was bumped up to version 1....

Aquaman actor Yahya Abdul-Mateen II reveals how his character David Hyde becomes the villain Black Manta in the upcoming DCEU standalone film. Fans recently got their first glimpse of Abdul-Mateen II as Hyde, gazing upon the Black Manta helmet he uses to dive beneath the sea and tangle with Aquaman. In the upcoming film, Jason Momoa’s Aquaman will actually have multiple enemies to deal with, as Black Manta will be joined by King Orm (Patrick Wilson)....

The annual study reveals the top companies in terms of investment in research & development, as well as how that money is spent, or which industry spends more in said field. It’s a pretty interesting read, and you can check out the PDF here. A part of the study involves determining the world’s most innovative companies. These are decided by survey participants which include executives from 700 companies. For the third year in a row, Apple has topped the most innovative company chart, followed by Google, and 3M came in third place....

Update: Mostly not true According to The Next Web, Apple is in negotiations to acquire criticized photo/video-sharing company Color. The deal is reportedly “done,” though final papers are apparently yet to be signed. Color Founder Bill Nguyen, who happened to found a company Apple previously acquired (Lala), reportedly has been building new versions of the Color app to demo to Apple SVP Eddy Cue. The Next Web claims the deal is in the double-digit millions of dollars....

Apple today has released a new version of iOS 9.2.1 that will remedy bricked iPhones affected by ‘error 53‘ after servicing hardware with Touch ID (via TechCrunch). iOS 9.2.1 is the same version number released last month, but the updated build from 13D15 to 13D20 reflects the resolution for bricked iPhones. Don’t expect to see this iOS update appear over-the-air if you’re already running iOS 9.2.1, however, as it’s only intended to make restoring via iTunes possible for affected iPhones....

Xsan is an Apple branded version of Quantum’s StorNext File System software with minor enhancements designed for Apple’s Mac OS X operating system. Xsan enables the sharing of one or more Xserve RAID devices with multiple Xserve or Macintosh systems. Xsan will also work with third party fibre channel storage devices with limited support from Apple. With the Xsan file system installed, these computers can read and write to the same storage volume at the same time....

While Apple had to close most of its retail stores during the pandemic, more customers have been choosing to buy online. To speed up this process, Apple will now ship products from its store stocks so that it can guarantee even faster deliveries. According to a Bloomberg report, Apple has started using its retail stores as distribution centers for its products, which has been done for some time by other companies....

According to a report by AllThingsD, Apple will debut its latest iPhone lineup during a special event on September 10th, just a month from today. The report doesn’t specify as to which models will be announced at the event, but if rumors are to be believed, we may see the highly anticipated iPhone 5S as well as a new, low-cost iPhone 5C. There’s been much speculation as to when exactly Apple will unveil its latest lineup as the company has been unusually quiet about new products over the last year....

Hot on the heels of Apple’s education event, the company has now announced AppleCare+ pricing for its newly released $329 ($299 for education) iPad with support for Apple Pencil. AppleCare+ for the new iPad will start at $59 for two years, a reduction from $79 previously. There will also be an option to extend coverage up to three years, starting at $79, which is a reduction from $99. Apple today also announced that it was discounting the Apple Pencil slightly for education users....

Apple seemingly wasn’t too happy that it was singled out for an FTC investigation into making it too easy for children to make in-app purchases: following its own settlement back in January, the company’s general counsel Bruce Sewell promptly reported Google for the same thing, reports Politico. “I thought this article might be of some interest, particularly if you have not already seen it,” Apple general counsel Bruce Sewell wrote to FTC Chairwoman Edith Ramirez and Democratic Commissioner Julie Brill, pointing to a report that criticized Google’s app store over the same issue of unauthorized purchases …...

Apple today has officially scheduled its fiscal Q4 2020 earnings call for Thursday, October 29. As usual, the company will hold a call with investors and analysts at 2 p.m. PT/5 p.m. ET, right after the release of its Q4 earnings. Just like last quarter, Apple didn’t provide any official guidance for Q4 2020 due to the economic uncertainty caused by the pandemic. Apple reported revenue of $59.7 billion and a profit of $11....

Right on time… Digitimes reports that Apple has lowered GSM and CDMA iPhone 4 production ahead of the September launch for the fifth-generation iPhone – “iPhone 4S.” The report says that “Apple has lowered its expected shipment volume of iPhone 4 for the second quarter of 2011 from 20 million units, to 17.5-18 million units consisting of 16 million units of the 3G version and 1.5-2 million units of the CDMA version....

Apple appears to be testing next-generation 5G data speeds, Business Insider reports. The specific wireless technology is called millimeter wave which could ultimately improve cellular performance for iPhones and other connected devices. Business Insider notes that Apple has been granted an application for an experimental license by the FCC to test the new 5G wireless technology. The application allows Apple to test the new technology from two locations in California including one near its current 1 Infinite Loop headquarters in Cupertino and the other in nearby Milpitas, CA....

Apple has started sending out emails to Apple TV+ users whose free trials will finally expire soon, as the (twice extended) free trials with hardware purchases finally come to an end in July. With so many free trials ending in the same month, Apple has stacked its upcoming schedule of TV+ content in the hopes of enticing as many people as possible to renew and not to cancel. The email being sent out to free trial members features a summary of upcoming titles, including the second seasons of Ted Lasso, The Morning Show and SEE....
