Apple will premiere its Apple TV+ original TV show Dickinson at the Tribeca television festival on September 14. The company will screen the first episode to festival attendees and then hold a panel with the show screenwriter Alena Smith, and stars Hailee Steinfeld (who plays Emily Dickinson) and Jane Krakowski (who plays Dickinson’s mother). Yesterday, Apple shared a trailer for Dickinson which is a pitched as a comedy-drama covering Emily Dickinson’s coming of age story....

In an effort to get ahead with 5G, Verizon is looking to include YouTube TV or Apple TV as part of a launch promotion in its initial four markets. As reported by Variety, Verizon will include a YouTube TV subscription, or an Apple TV 4K in Sacramento, Los Angeles, Houston, and Indianapolis — the company’s initial launch cities. Verizon plans to be the first wireless company in the United States to roll out 5G in the residential broadband space later this year, with support from mobile device manufactures to begin in early 2019....

Apple TV users will notice a new channel in the lineup today: CBS News. The newly added CBS News channel is available for free and features the CBSN streaming news channel launched by CBS earlier today. Viewers can also access on-demand content from previous broadcasts of CBS Evening News and CBS This Morning. Additional on-demand content from shows including 60 Minutes, 48 Hours, Sunday Morning, and Face the Nation can also be found for free....

Two months after the initial launch of the Apple Watch, and only a day following the device’s debut at Apple Stores, sources have revealed Apple’s considerations for the 2016 release of a second-generation model. According to multiple sources familiar with Apple’s plans, the Apple Watch 2 is planned to gain a video camera, a new wireless system for greater iPhone independence, and new premium-priced models. We’ve reported several times about the Apple Watch Series 4’s ECG functionality alerting unsuspecting users to seek medical attention. In addition to ECG, however, the Series 4 has a fall detection functionality. That feature is what one Norweigan Apple Watch user credits with saving his life. As reported by NRK, 67-year-old Toralv Østvang was found “bloody and unconscious” on his bathroom floor by emergency authorities. According to the report, Østvang fell in his bathroom, with the Apple Watch automatically alerting emergency authorities....

A sketchy report from Digitimes today claims that Apple is trudging ahead with work on its self-driving car project. The report says that Apple is working with TSMC on self-driving chips and exploring the possibility of some sort of factories in the United States. Digitimes has a mixed track record when it comes to these types of stories. Today’s report should be treated with skepticism, but nonetheless, it offers some rare information on Apple’s ongoing self-driving car “Project Titan” work....

Aquaman director James Wan has revealed a crucial moment from Arthur Curry’s past that wound up cut from the film. Aquaman was essentially a traditional superhero origin story, exploring just what makes Aquaman a true hero. It almost completely ignored the events of Justice League - there was only one brief mention of Steppenwolf - and instead chose to introduce Aquaman as a new commodity. That was a smart move; the flashbacks were among the most effective scenes in the entire movie, even making their way into the marketing....

Apple today has asked developers to begin to submit their updated applications for iOS 13. The company touts that developers can implement Dark Mode, Sign in with Apple, ARKit 3, and more. Starting in April 2020, Apple says all new apps and app updates will be required to be built with the iOS 13 SDK. Following the release of iOS 15.2 to all users last week, Apple today stopped signing iOS 15.1.1 for iPhone 13 models and iOS 15.1 for older iPhone models. This means that users who updated their devices to iOS 15.2 can no longer downgrade to iOS 15.1.1 or iOS 15.1. Back in November, Apple had stopped signing iOS 15.1 for iPhone 13 models as those devices received the iOS 15.1.1 update to fix a specific bug affecting this year’s iPhones....

TechCrunch noticed that Apple started including editorially curated subcategories on the App Store for games. The new lists replace the old “New” and “What’s hot” lists that were generated automatically based an algorithm. We’ve confirmed the change with Apple, which tells us that the switch to editorially curated lists for the games subcategories went live on May 14th. Going forward, it seems that Apple is moving away from these algorithmically derived and more automated lists....

Apple TV+ has inked an exclusive multi-year first-look deal with Martin Scorsese for future television shows and movies. As reported by Deadline, the deal means that Apple TV+ will have first dibs at content from Scorsese’s Sikelia Productions company. News of this first-look deal between Scorsese and Apple TV+ comes after Apple reached a deal with Paramount to help finance the filmmaker’s Killers of the Flower Moon adaptation. The film, which is based on a best selling book of the same name, was in development at Paramount, but the studio grew weary of the $180 to $200 million price tag....

Development on the website has been excruciatingly slow. For instance, the Up Next watchlist only came to the web-app a few months ago. Today, it gains another basic feature that people naturally expect from a streaming app: the ability to search for shows by name. Until today, there was no search functionality on tv.apple.com. The only way to find a particular show (that wasn’t in your Up Next list) was to scroll through the carousels on the homepage, often having to take several guesses at which category Apple had put the show in, and then select the title....

Apple Senior Vice President of Worldwide Marketing Philip Schiller is now live on stage at the company’s special media event in California, and he just showcased a refreshed, slimmer, and sleeker iMac. “It is the most beautiful iMac we have ever made,” announced Schiller. “There’s an entire computer in there […] it’s hard to believe there is even a display in here.” The new eighth model is beautifully thin, but it still touts the iconic iMac shape....

Apple’s request to have the Apple Watch exempted from tariffs on Chinese imports has been approved. Bloomberg reports that the U.S. Trade Representative approved the request on Friday in a letter to Apple. President Trump imposed 15% tariffs on a wide-ranging list of products imported from China last September, including the Apple Watch. The tariff was cut in half last month as part of the initial trade deal between the United States and China, but now the Apple Watch has been completely exempted....

Aquaman’s new promo spot reveals Vulko (Willem Dafoe) sending Arthur (Jason Momoa) and Mera (Amber Heard) to search for King Atlan’s missing Trident of Neptune. Directed by James Wan, the upcoming Warner Bros. and DC project establishes the origin story of the titular character. Set after the events of Justice League, it will tackle Arthur’s own journey in becoming the leader of Atlantis. While Aquaman will have a chunk of its story set underwater as Arthur battles Orm/Ocean Master to become the rightful king of the hidden civilization, a portion of the film will take place in the surface world as Wan establishes the hero’s unique origin being the son of both sea and land....
