On the heels of launching a YouTube channel dedicated to how-to tutorial videos, Apple today pushed a significant version 2.0 update to its Apple Support app for iOS. The app, which initially launched last November, received a major update back in the spring that allowed users to schedule repairs at participating Apple Authorized Service Providers, and provided broader access to Genius Bar reservations. Today’s update adds a redesigned user interface, along with a new Discover tab dedicated to learning about your Apple products....

The Apple versus Spotify antitrust battle took a new turn today, with the European Union saying that the Cupertino company will now face an additional charge of anti-competitive behavior. Apple’s VP of product marketing Greg Joswiak recently talked with Wired about the runaway success of AirPods. Aquarius Computer today is releasing its new Mac app called AppSwitcher. With this application, you can switch between apps in a presentation without revealing your screen full of open windows. AppSwitcher is a new system extension-like app that allows users to switch to one app at a time and switch to only that app. For example, when you click on Safari, you instantly hide the open Mail app. The app helps you to have a clean desktop, which is perfect for presentations....

In an interview for NBC (a fragment of which you can watch below), Cook says that the company would start making one of its Mac lines in the US starting next year. This could mean quite a bit of outsourcing from companies in the US. The interesting thing is that Foxconn, one of Apple’s main suppliers, is also set to expand its operations in the USA too. If you remember, Foxconn had some serious complaints about the way it was treating its employees, and Apple sent the Fair Labor Association to inspect the company’s plants in China....

One week following the first beta seed of OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.5, Apple has released OS X 10.8.5 build 12F13 to developers. The new update includes no known issues and is available for developers via the Mac Developer Center and the Mac App Store Software Update function. Apple continues to ask developers to focus on WiFi, Graphics, Wake from Sleep, PDF viewing and Accessibility, and Mobile Device Management during their testing....

Yesterday we shared that the popular automatic screen brightness adjusting app Flux had found a way to make it from the Mac to iPhones and iPads on iOS 9. This afternoon the developers behind Flux announced that the app will no longer be available on iOS at the request of Apple. In a blog post sharing the development, the developers behind the app said that Apple contacted them to say that the app violated Apple’s Developer Program Agreement....

Workers at one of Apple’s flagship retail locations in New York City are taking the first steps to unionize. As first reported by The Washington Post this weekend, workers at the Apple Store located in Grand Central Terminal are now collecting signatures to begin the unionization process. If successful, this would mark the first time that Apple Store employees have unionized. A report back in February indicated that some Apple Store workers in the United States were in the early stages of unionization....

The long-running saga surrounding troubled Apple supplier Japan Display continues, with a much-touted rescue plan today thrown into doubt. Apple is taking a different approach to pre-orders and sales for Apple Watch, which has a lot to do with the product being Apple’s first fashion accessory. For that reason, many customers will actually want to try the Apple Watch on in person before making the purchase. To get a feel for the new try-on experience — Apple started letting customers schedule appointments to try-on the device in-stores on April 10 — the company is surveying customers afterwards to get feedback and see if they plan on purchasing the device....

Earlier today, Apple rolled out the second beta of tvOS 9.2 for the fourth-generation Apple TV. The original beta included new features such as folder organization and Bluetooth keyboard support, but one highly requested new feature has been added today with the second beta. With tvOS 9.2 on Apple TV, users can now access their full iCloud Photo Library. The feature is turned off by default, but can be activated via the Settings app....

Following this morning’s WWDC keynote, Apple has quickly updated their Design Resources page, adding new elements introduced in iOS 12. Prior to today, Apple had provided designers with iOS UI templates in formats for popular tools like Sketch and Adobe’s Photoshop and XD. For the first time, resources are now available for one of Apple’s own apps, Keynote. While built as a presentation tool, Keynote has become popular with many designers for prototyping applications....

In terms of smartwatch technology, the Apple Watch Series 5 offers only very minor upgrades over its predecessor, apart from the welcome ability to always have the display on. While the Apple Watch 3 does not have a price hike and offers more storage, many people will find it more appealing to buy the cheaper Apple Watch 3. Since the Watch 5 has mostly stayed the same as the Watch 4 design, it’s not unexpected....

AAPL shares have crossed another major milestone with the market cap hitting over $1.5 trillion during trading today. The growth makes it the first US company to reach the achievement. Just last week we saw AAPL pushing closer to the $1.5 trillion market cap mark as it set an intraday record at $326 a share. Greek site Techingreek.com is reporting that Apple Service Providers will be providing after-sales service for Beats headphones and speakers within the country, suggesting that Apple itself may be doing the same in countries with Apple retail stores. The site says that the above message was sent to Apple Service Providers in Greece, stating that they will provide service for Beats Electronics products “in the near future” … The move would be a logical step on the path to fully integrating Beats into the Apple fold following the $3B acquisition back in May....
