Apple is launching a new worldwide ad campaign today that yet again emphasizes the company’s focus on privacy. This time, Apple is taking on the topic of data brokers wugs a new ad called “Privacy on iPhone.” In addition to a 90-second ad that will run on social and YouTube, Apple is also running billboards and other forms of advertising prompting “Privacy on iPhone.” Apple’s latest privacy ad push The new ad campaign from Apple focuses on data auctions and data brokers....

The trade-ins will only be done at Apple Retail Stores and will allow customers to recieve credit instantly. Recently, Best Buy began offering Free iPhone 5s with plan for an iPhone 4 or 4S trade-in. Apple apparently liked the idea – Brightstar counts both Best Buy and Apple amongst its client list. Apple also worked with Brightstar to help AT&T and T-Mobile with their recent trade-in promotions. Last night, Apple announced its latest original series heading to Apple TV+: ‘Ted Lasso’ starring Jason Sudeikis. The comedy is based on the character of the same name from the viral NBC Sports ads. The show will air on August 14. The character Ted Lasso is a college football coach from Kansas. He is hired to coach an English football team, naturally having no experience of soccer. Upcoming TV+ releases include the ‘Dear’ docuseries and the ‘Dads’ documentary film....

Apple has updated the MacBook range, introducing a new, durable polycarbonate unibody design featuring an LED display, a glass Multi-Touch trackpad and the same built-in battery as found on the MacBook Pro, offering seven hours battery life. According to market research firm DisplaySearch, LG Display—the sole company currently making displays for the Apple Watch—brought in over $186 million during the first quarter of 2015, a number more than 90% of the overall market estimated to be worth a total of $240 million (via Business Korea). Earlier this month, Apple moved to gain control of iPhone 5.com from a domain squatter who used it as a forum full of ads. The company filed a dispute with the World Intellectual Property Organization, which now appears to have granted Apple’s request today. As The Next Web reported, the squatter relinquished control of the domain, and control now goes to brand protection agency Corporation Service Company, which Apple could be using to take control....

Cult of Mac today publicized a bug in iTunes Match that matches explicit tracks to clean versions. The issue resides in Apple’s iTunes Match software that is sometimes unable to distinguish clean versions of a track from explicit versions due to slight differences. The issue is causing trouble for some, but Apple is already working on a fix. A 9to5 reader emailed Apple Senior Vice President of Internet Software and Services about the issue a couple of weeks ago and received a response from one of Eddy Cue’s engineers....

Apple subpoenas in the Epic Games case are over the top, says a judge in the case, noting that the iPhone maker was seemingly demanding information from anyone and everyone. But he did rule that the company should get some of the Steam data it wanted in order to help understand how the games market as a whole operates. A new report today (via Gigaom) has provided some more information about the alliance the two companies recently forged. According to UBS analyst Steven Milunovich, Apple has taken a dominant role in the relationship, demanding that IBM salespeople carry MacBooks pre-loaded with sales presentations created by Apple. While IBM has mostly been building software for businesses like reators and banks, the analyst’s note indicates that the company may soon branch out into other offerings as well, potentially including supply chain applications and the like....

On the heels of a report from the WSJ last week about Apple planning to roll out more protections for kids’ apps on iOS, the company has detailed its latest steps to increase privacy and security for young users. Apple didn’t specify the changes for apps in the kids category on stage during the WWDC keynote, but an update to its App Store Review Guidelines covers the new changes. This update should eliminate any possibility of kids’ apps collecting and sending data to third-parties, that is if developers adhere to the new rules....

WIPO can do that, but what remains to be seen is whether it will find a reason to do so. According to its whois record, the domain is registered privately, via Fabulous.com (an Australian registrar) since February 14th, 2008 and has paid for the domain until 2021....

Jony Ive’s year-ago prediction that the Swiss watch industry would be in trouble once the Apple Watch launched appears to have been correct (his actual language was said to have been stronger). Bloomberg reports that Swiss watch exports suffered their biggest slump in six years. The figures show that both higher- and lower-end brands are being hit hard, especially in the world’s biggest market for Swiss watches, Hong Kong … Shipments declined 12 percent to 2 billion Swiss francs ($2 billion), the Swiss customs office said in a statement Thursday....

Apple has posted a new SEC filing to report that Vice President and Corporate Controller Betsy Rafael will be retiring on October 19, 2012. Rafael is a crucial member of Apple’s finance team, managing the company’s finances and serving as the Principle Accounting Officer. Apple is yet to name a replacement. Rafael previously worked at several companies, including Cisco and Sun Microsystems, all in management or financial positions. Apple typically does not announce departures of Vice Presidents, but they appear to have been required to do so due to Rafael’s high-level accounting position....

Apple today has released a pair of Safari betas for earlier version of OS X. Safari 7.1.5 beta for OS X Mavericks and version 6.2.5 beta for OS X Mountain Lion are both available on the Mac Developer Center for registered developers.
