For the first time, Apple will allow users to stay on the previous major version when iOS 15 ships in the fall. Users will have the choice to stay on iOS 14 and receive important security updates, or upgrade to iOS 15 to take advantage of all the new features. iOS always has high levels of adoption from its user base, but some groups prefer not to upgrade right away. With this new feature in place, those people will no longer miss out on bug fixes and security updates....

Consumer Reports yesterday dropped a bombshell on Apple, making the new MacBook Pro the first MacBook ever to not receive the publication’s recommendation. As for its reasoning, Consumer Reports explained that the inconsistent, yet sometimes impressive, battery life was too big of an issue to overlook. Now, Apple Marketing executive Phil Schiller says that the company is working with Consumer Reports to “understand” the tests. That’s what’s so ironic about this: Consumer Reports reported a three and a half hour test on the MacBook Pro, which if you’ve used one like me, know is completely possible with some serious CPU-intensive tasks....

Nike+ Training: Nike released a new app today that works with shoes using the Nike+ Sport Adapter (included in Nike+ Sport Pack bundles) that syncs wirelessly with your iOS device over Bluetooth....

Recent interviews with Aquaman director James Wan have confirmed that The King of The Seven Seas will talk to fish in the upcoming Warner Brothers film - and there is nothing wrong with that. Aquaman and his “aqua-telepathy” have long been the subject of mockery in popular culture. From jokes about his relationships with his finned friends to wisecracks about how utterly useless the ability to communicate with sea-life is in a combat situation, everything insulting that can be said about Aquaman has been said repeatedly....

Aquaman director James Wan (Furious 7) says the film is “separate” from the rest of the DC Universe in terms of look and feel - not continuity. Fans got their first look at the half-human, half-Atlantean Arthur Curry (Jason Momoa) in Batman v Superman. But it wasn’t until Justice League where Aquaman really got the chance to show off his powers. The character doesn’t seem to be the most obvious choice to star in the first solo film after that team up, especially when better known heroes like the Flash (Ezra Miller) and Batman (Ben Affleck) still don’t have their own movies....

An analysis of Apple’s Q4 guidance by BTIG’s Walter Piecyk suggests that the company will launch new products in Q4, which ends on 28 September. Piecyk says that the guidance on margins suggests that the product will be an iPhone … Morgan Stanley analyst Katy Huberty, quoted in a Business Insider piece, backed up this view. The big question, of course, is whether the new product is the 5S, plastic iPhone or both....

Apple released a small update for its Podcasts app this evening to bring it to version 1.0.2. The update does not provide anything in the way of new features, but it does provide performance and stability improvements. The troublesome issue of Podcasts quitting on launch is also fixed in the update, according to Apple in the release notes below. Apple has had a rough start with its Podcasts app due to a slew of issues from the beginning....

Shortly after releasing 10.8.3 build 12D43 to developers, Apple is today seeding build 12D50 with no known issues. Apple isn’t listing any significant changes, but it asked developers to once again focus on AirPlay, AirPort, Game Center, Graphics Drivers, and Safari. Apple has released a cool new ad today called Flight that highlights the cellular capabilities of the Apple Watch. In the ad created by film director Jonathan Glazer, renowned skydiver Inka Tiitto runs through the forest with her watch and then is catapulted into the sky where she dances amongst the clouds, to then plummet back into the ocean. The ad shows off the Watch’s Maps turn-by-turn navigation features, and the ability to answer the phone from anywhere thanks to the cellular radios …...

The Apple Store is down ahead of Apple’s WWDC 2022 keynote later today, with a new placeholder page that reads ‘Developing news’. The ceremonial store-going-down dance usually indicates that Apple is preparing to announce new hardware products. Of course, the main star of the show today will be on the operating system updates; we expect Apple to unveil major new features for iOS 16, iPadOS 16, macOS 13, watchOS 9 and tvOS 16....

On paper, it makes sense. Apple likes All-in-ones (see iMac). Apple is spending a great deal of cash on LCDs for just its Cinema Displays, iMacs and laptop screens? Maybe there is some additional motivation in there, right? Everyone is going digital now – analog TV is dying. Munster further speculates that a “future product transition” — mentioned by Apple CFO Peter Oppenheimer in July — could have been a veiled reference to TVs, given that the transition was cited as a reason why gross margins would fall in sequential quarters....

In celebration of Earth Day 2021, Apple announced that is launching a new documentary special ‘The Year Earth Changed’ which examines how changes in human behavior, as a result of the pandemic, affected wildlife and nature. ‘The Year Earth Changed’ will be released on April 16. Apple TV+ will also be releasing new episodes of its documentary series ‘Earth At Night in Color’ and ‘Tiny World’ on the same date....

After a number of talk show hosts and TV series have taken production into their homes and many via iPhone, the Apple TV+ comedy Mythic Quest is set to join as the latest series to launch a special pandemic quarantine episode. From Conan O’Brien to a special reunion episode of Parks and Recreation we’ve seen some neat creativity from entertainers and producers during the pandemic to keep content flowing. Now Apple’s own Mythic Quest will be debuting a special shot on iPhone pandemic episode next week on May 22nd (via Variety)....

In the latest pickup for its in-house studios, Apple has picked up the film project Snow Blind starring Jake Gyllenhall, according to Deadline. The film will be an adaptation of the graphic novel of the same name. Deadline said the film was fiercely fought for by the major players, with Apple coming out on top of a six-way bidding war. However, exact financials have not been reported. This is the third film under the Apple Studios wing....

Apple says libraries will be able to migrate across to the new application when the application ships. Apple is working with Adobe to offer a upgrade path to Lightroom. As noted by TechCrunch, Apple will offer a Yosemite compatibility update for Aperture, but otherwise development has ended. The new Photos app will include some of the features contained within iPhoto and Aperture, but also offers the big advantage of syncing with iCloud Photo Library, which will sync every photo you take when iOS 8 and OS X Yosemite ship later this year....

Fortune has announced its annual list of the world’s most admired companies, and for the 10th year in a row Apple has taken first place. Arch-rival Samsung dropped out of the top 50 this year, Fortune explaining that its exploding batteries caused too much damage to both its sales and reputation.
