Apple TV+ today announced it has commissioned a new TV series into production. Based on the best-selling novel by Victor LaVallle, ‘The Changeling’ is described as a fairytale for grown ups. The drama series will star LaKeith Stanfield, who recently featured in the movie Judas and the Black Messiah. The show is produced by Apple Studios and Annapurna. Kelly Marcel will adapt the novel to screen, who recently wrote the script for the Disney+ movie Cruella....

Apple is once again hosting an Apple Watch Activity Challenge for Earth Day. As it has done for the past two years, Apple is celebrating Earth Day by encouraging Apple Watch users to get out and celebrate the planet. Aquaman actor Yahya Abdul-Mateen II says that his villain, Black Manta, is being set up for future appearances in other DC Extended Universe movies. Directed by James Wan (The Conjuring), Aquaman will be the first DCEU movie since last summer’s Justice League, in which Jason Momoa’s Aquaman saved the planet (with a little help from his friends). A classic supervillain from the comics, Black Manta (whose real name is David Hyde) uses a specially designed underwater suit to do battle with Aquaman on his own turf - the highlight of which is a helmet capable of blasting rays from its eyes....

There’s a new development in the ongoing back-and-forth between Apple and the Department of Justice. Apple’s top lawyer, Bruce Sewell, will testify on encryption next week before a congressional hearing. The upcoming hearing will take place on Tuesday, March 1st, just five days from today. Also in attendance at next week’s hearing will be James Comey, who you may know as the Director of the FBI, which should make for an interesting showdown (although the two are on separate panels so don’t expect anything too confrontational)....

Apple has announced today that it will release its earnings report for the fiscal second quarter of 2021 on April 28. As usual, the company will release its Q2 2021 earnings report, then hold a conference call with investors and analysts to provide more detail. Apple’s fiscal second-quarter covers the months of January, February, and March. This will be an interesting quarter for Apple because it comes as most Apple Stores around the world have returned to normal operations amid the COVID-19 pandemic....

Apple is finally releasing watchOS 8 beta 3 to all developers. After more than one month since WWDC 2021, when it was first previewed, Apple is now seeding another build for the upcoming Apple Watch operating system. Today’s build is 19R5302f. Public beta testers were seeded with beta 2 on June 30 and they will probably receive the public beta soon. Apple has also released today iOS 15 beta 3, macOS Monterey beta 3, and tvOS 15 beta 3 to all developers....

Apple has posted a new page on its retail website to announce that Apple Retail Store Camp is back for the summer of 2014. The annual event allows kids on summer vacation to work on projects within their local Apple retail stores. Interested campers can sign up on Apple’s website. This year, Apple says that kids will create movies in iMovie and books in iBooks Author. Macs will be used for final production (editing in iMovie and making books in iBooks Author), but music for the movies will be made using GarageBand for iPad and and drawing apps on the iPad will be used for illustrations for the iBooks....

The 12 months of 2011 were an exhilarating ride for Apple of Cupertino, Calif. It went through a major leadership transition after the company lost its cofounder Steve Jobs and op-chief Tim Cook took the reigns and appointed several new executives. The iPhone 4S became a huge success and pushed Apple’s market capitalization above the half a trillion-dollar valuation. Editors at Fortune magazine did not have second thoughts when ranking Apple first on its annual list of World’s Most Admired Companies due to the company’s impending iPad 3 unveiling, off-the-chart sales, and beautiful new retail stores like the upcoming Amsterdam outlet....

As Apple continues to invest in the original Apple TV+ catalog, the company today announced a deal with Hyperobject Industries, a film production company created by Academy Award winner and director Adam McKay. At the same time, Apple TV+ has now received five nominations for the Television Critics Association’s 2021 TCA Awards. As reported by Deadline, Apple on Thursday confirmed a multi-year agreement with Hyperobject Industries. Although the company also produces TV shows, the deal with Apple is specific to scripted feature films....

When unveiling the Apple Watch, Apple heavily touted the fact that the device is an incredibly precise timekeeper. As the Watch has rolled out to retail stores we’ve slowly been finding a few features buried within Settings, including one that relates to the accuracy of the time. In Watch OS, Apple has included the ability to manually adjust the time displayed on the watch face of your device. Apple notes, however, that only the information displayed on your clock face is affected by adjusting the time via this setting....

A man who lost his Apple Watch while body surfing in Huntington Beach, California had a nice surprise this week. Robert Bainter originally lost his Apple Watch six months ago, but this month it made its way back to him – in working condition. As detailed by local news outlet KTLA, Bainter lost his Apple Watch while surfing in Huntington Beach late last year. He describes the Apple Watch as his “good luck charm” when surfing as it can show him detailed information about his location....

According to Aquaman director James Wan there’s no plot hole in his movie as it relates to 2017’s Justice League. While Aquaman has been warmly received critically and smashed several box office records, the movie has still received some criticism for how it relates to the larger DCEU. Although Jason Momoa’s first appearance as Arthur Curry was in Batman v. Superman, the character’s proper introduction was in Justice League, and it’s one of Aquaman’s earliest Justice League scenes that has caused a bit of controversy....

Apple’s ninth annual Environmental Responsibility Report summarises the company’s work on its three environmental priorities of renewable energy, safer materials & processes and conserving resources. As part of the third of those, the company revealed that its recycling program last year recovered 89 million pounds of materials – Business Insider noting that this included a cool $40M worth of gold. Gold is commonly used in circuit boards because it has low electrical resistance and, unlike copper, doesn’t corrode....

Apple’s request for a new trial in its never-ending legal battle with VirnetX has been denied. Apple had asked for a new trial as part of the patent battle, and while it won’t get that trial, there’s still the possibility of an appeal. As reported by AppleInsider, the final judgement was handed down by Judge Robert Schroeder in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas. In that final judgement, Schroder denied Apple’s motion for a new trial and “denied-in-part and granted-in-part a VirnetX Motion for Entry of Judgment and for Equitable and Statutory Relief....

In early November, we reported that Apple had begun seeding versions of OS X Mavericks 10.9.1 and 10.9.2 to employees within the its Software Engineering division. Since then, Apple provided two OS X 10.9.1 seeds to registered developers. These builds focus on improvements to Mail, Voice Over, and general system stability. The update will serve as the first point-update to the recently released OS X Mavericks. Now, we’ve learned that Apple has provided build 13B40 of 10....

Just a month after the release of Developer Preview 2, Apple seeded OS X Mountain Lion Developer Preview 3 (build 12A178q) today to developers. There is no word on new features, but like always, we are working to find those quickly. In the midst of all the high-profile Samsung vs. Apple cases throughout courtrooms worldwide, some have missed the smaller court cases popping up that could have just as much of an impact depending on the outcome. Bloomberg reports Taipei-based semiconductor manufacturer Via Technologies Inc. is suing Apple based on three patents related to microprocessors in tablets and smartphones. The case was filed yesterday with the U.S. District Court in Delaware and seeks an order to prevent Apple from selling products that are covered by the three invention patents in the US....

Servant was one of the first Apple TV+ original shows announced last year, and Apple confirmed today that the psychological thriller has been renewed for a third season. This comes ahead of its second season premiere on January 15, 2021. The show debuted in 2019 with 10 intriguing episodes that tell the story of Leanne, a nanny who was hired by Dorothy and Sean Turner to take care of a baby who is actually a doll....
