There are two things I do with my iPhone on-the-go that my Apple Watch hasn’t been able to do: play podcasts and take photos and video. The upcoming watchOS 5 software update solves the podcast problem, and I have a dedicated camera for shooting without my iPhone. But the inability to pair the Apple Watch with Bluetooth car audio remains a sticking point. My Apple Watch can stream Apple Music and Radio over LTE....

It’s no secret that former Florida governor Jeb Bush is a huge fan of his Apple Watch. Since the Apple Watch launched, the Republican presidential candidate has gone after the youth vote by showing off his Apple Watch and calling it a better option than Obamacare, despite labeling it unintuitive and power-hungry a few months later. iLounge editor Jeremy Horwitz, who has proved to be reliable in Apple related leaks in the past, published a report today claiming “a reliable source” provided details on two products the company currently has in development. According to Horwitz, Apple is working on a new iPad “Smart Case” and “another glass iPhone.” As for the “smart case,” the report described the new case as inspired by the existing smart covers but more like Incase’s Magazine Jacket (pictured above), because they will also have a back cover....

Apple Stores have been inundated with customers in search of replacement iPhone batteries since the end of last year when Apple reduced the service cost from $79 to $29. The move addressed criticism over how it handled performance throttling on iPhones with older batteries as a solution to unexpected shutdowns, but weeks-long wait times have proved problematic across most Apple Stores. Now, retail employees have shared that Apple is bringing in support from new sources....

Apple is nearly finished constructing a second retail location in the Chinese region of Macau. New signage installed over the building’s facade teases the store’s imminent opening for the first time. A dark blue-green canvas striped by undulating lines covers the exterior of Apple’s newest store adjacent to the Sands Cotai Central resort. A chromed Apple logo and two lines of Chinese characters are the only hints that iPhones and iPads will soon be sold inside....

Almost two years ago, Apple acquired Mobile Device Management platform Fleetsmith. This partnership gave customers a first-party MDM solution for their business. Now the tech giant has announced that it is discontinuing further service through Fleetsmith. New signups for Fleetsmith are discontinued as of April 21. Apple states that existing customers can use the Fleetsmith service until October 21, 2022. After that, customers can no longer log in on fleetsmith.com. Additionally, devices running on the Fleetsmith server will no longer receive configuration profiles....

Apple continues its hiring spree with Apple TV+. Today, it was revealed that the company has hired the BBC’s factual controller, Alison Kirkham, who will join Apple’s growing original content division based in the United Kingdom. Apple also announced that it has set an overall deal with Alena Smith, the showrunner of ‘Dickinson’. Dickinson was the first complete series released on the Apple TV+ service, with all episodes streaming from November 1st....

The all-new Apple TV app is now available for Samsung Smart TVs, marking the first time the video player has been available beyond Apple’s own platforms. Samsung Smart TVs are also gaining support for Apple’s AirPlay 2 feature for wirelessly sending audio and video to the TV screen without a set-top box attached. Both new features are available through a firmware update on newer Samsung Smart TVs. The company says all 2019 smart TVs and select 2018 models will receive the firmware update....

An SEC filing has revealed that Apple granted its incoming retail Angela Ahrendts 113,334 shares in the company. At today’s price (which hit $600 for the first time since the end of 2012), that comes out to about $68 million. Of course, as usual, she’ll need to wait to get the full payout—in this case the stocks will fully vest in 2018. For comparison, John Browett, the company’s former retail chief, got 100,000 shares when he joined the company, or about $61 million at the time....

After adding AppleCare+ with Theft & Loss to the United Kingdom and Australia, Apple is expanding its concierge plan, but only as additional coverage of accidents, to France, Italy, and Spain. Apple announced this change after updating a support document (via AppleInsider) showing that users in France, Italy, and Spain are now able to purchase additional coverage with an AppleCare+ for iPhone, iPad, or Apple Watch. Previously, AppleCare+ was only available in Australia, Canada, Germany, Japan, UK, and the US....

Apple has begun training its AppleCare support staff on its upcoming OS X Mavericks, according to several sources. These sources say that training has begun today, and support staff will be required to learn about the operating system’s new features, installation process, and troubleshooting options for at least six hours over the course of the next few weeks… The training is said to be similar in secrecy and style to the iOS 7 and iTunes Radio training, and it has yet to begin for all AppleCare employees....

Recently announced Shazam! cast member Djimon Hounsou has another DC role in Aquaman as the Fisherman King. It is a busy time for Warner Bros. and the DC Universe. In just over a week they’ll be sharing several DC-related pieces of news at San Diego Comic-Con. The biggest and most anticipated drop is that of the first trailer for DC’s lone 2018 live-action theatrical release, Jason Momoa’s Aquaman. There hasn’t been much from a marketing perspective for the film to this point despite its December release date, but that’s due to the film’s heavy VFX....

Apple today announced the third generation of its 7.9-inch tablet with the new iPad mini 3. Apple says the new iPad mini 3 will start at $399 and be available for pre-order starting tomorrow. Storage capacities start at 16GB with both WiFi-only and Cellular options available. The new iPad mini 3 will be available in space gray, silver, and gold (for the first time). While the iPad mini 3 doesn’t contain much aside from Touch ID and a gold option, the new lineup does contain a price change for the higher storage capacities as 32GB has dropped from the lineup....
