Re/code regularly gets Apple executives to appear at its annual conferences and this year is no exception. The site announced that Apple’s Senior Vice President of Operations Jeff Williams will speak at the Code Conference 2015, which runs May 26 to May 28th. Re/code’s speaker appearances typically take the form of an interview, so you can expect the executive to give some insight on Apple’s latest announcements (Apple Watch) although naturally major feature announcements will not be discussed....

With the iPhone XS, Apple introduced support for bokeh and depth control – allowing users to adjust the depth of field of an image after it has been shot. A report from Macerkopf today explains that Apple also plans to soon let users adjust the depth of field while taking a picture. This follows a similar mention in TechCrunch’s review of the iPhone XS. The feature is currently available in iOS 12....

If you purchased a new Apple device from September 2019 last year — like an iPhone, iPad, Mac or Apple TV — you were automatically eligible for a free year of Apple TV+. These trials would begin expiring at the end of October. If you are in that group, it turns out you are going to get a few more months to enjoy the service at no charge. Apple will be extending all Apple TV+ trials through February 2021....

Apple announced earlier this week at the Worldwide Developers Conference that Baidu will come to the iPhone in the iOS 6 software update, but it just came to light that the Cupertino, Calif.-based Company plans to seize a portion of the China-based search engine’s advertising sales as part of the deal. According to Bloomberg: Eric Wen, who rates Baidu buy at Mirae Asset Securities, told Bloomberg that Baidu previously shared revenue with websites to encourage traffic for the search engine, while it now has a focus on sharing with smartphone manufacturers....

Image via GDGT While being scant on details, Apple just revealed Mountain Lion would sport a new dictation feature that sounds very close to what is present on iOS. The company said it works throughout the entire operating system, “even in Microsoft Word.” Apple did not unveil more information—not even showing the complete user-interface for dictation or how it works. We are sure to see more with future developer builds. Furthermore, Notification Center was given a bit of an update....

Apple is voicing its opposition to a proposal in Cupertino that would tax large corporations such as itself based on its employee count. In a letter sent to the Cupertino council, Apple touted its investments in the Cupertino economy, as well as its efforts to reduce traffic issues and more… In the letter, obtained by SF Gate, Apple VP Kristina Raspe pointed to various things Apple has done throughout Cupertino, including sidewalk and crosswalk improvements and more....

Apple announced last week an all-new generation of Apple Watch “Series 5” with an always-on display, built-in compass, and new case finishes. Despite showing all these new features during the keynote, Apple didn’t mention anything specific about Series 5 achieving better performance than last year’s Series 4, not even on its website. We now know that’s because there are no improvements over the CPU included in Apple Watch Series 5....

One month after Apple began taking Apple Watch pre-orders with a promised April 24 release date, many customers — including people who ordered immediately after Apple’s online store returned — are still awaiting their Watches. As noted on Apple’s discussion forums and numerous social media postings, many Apple Watch models appear to be trickling out of the company’s factories, while Watches bundled with certain premium bands have apparently not yet shipped....

Aquaman may be best served by moving away from a crowded late December release, and a recent shift in Warner Bros.’ plans could pave the way for that to happen. James Wan’s much anticipated underwater epic is building hype after its well-received Comic-Con trailer, with Warner Bros. hoping the adventures of Arthur Curry fare more like Wonder Woman than Justice League at the box office. Objective quality aside, Aquaman’s biggest hurdle is its crowded holiday release window....

A pair of new statues based on the upcoming Aquaman movie offer the best look yet at the costume designs for Black Manta and Mera. Audiences already got a brief glimpse of Amber Heard as Mera during her cameo in the Justice League movie. While Heard looked true to form, her brief amount of screen time gave her little chance to make an impression or establish much of Mera’s fiery personality from the comics....

James Wan’s Aquaman has now officially earned more than Justice League at the worldwide box office. Last year, Warner Bros. and DC took a massive hit when the team-up film proved to be a critical and commercial disappointment. Marred by negative buzz and poor reviews, Justice League disastrously ended up being the franchise’s lowest-grossing installment, bringing in only $657.9 million worldwide for its entire run. That development led to major changes behind the scenes at WB, and the series is now looking for a fresh start with both Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck seemingly out....

Apple has released a new ad from the ‘Shot on iPhone’ collection featuring photos captured by customers, and this ad includes a familiar voice reading a famous poem over the slideshow. Dr. Maya Angelou is heard reading her ‘Human Family’ poem over shots of people all over the world. According to The Verge, Apple will begin airing this ad that debuted on the web today later tomorrow at the start of the Olympics....

Apple has updated its Podcasts app today with a number of new features. Among the most notable is the ability to create custom stations that update automatically as new episodes of podcasts are available. There are also a number of new enhancements for stations and playlists, including iCloud support to keep stations up to date on all your iOS devices. The app also now includes a redesigned “Now Playing” view that shows playback controls, as pictured in the screenshots above....

Yesterday news broke that Apple was reportedly going to shut down its newly purchased Beats Music streaming service which Apple quickly dismissed as false although it does sound like changes for the brand and service are in the works as you might expect. Re/code’s John Paczkowski shared today that such a rebrand could be slated for February: With Apple currently maintaining a streaming music service branded as iTunes Radio and a separate on-demand music service branded as Beats Music, it’s not hard to believe that the service is due for some reworking under Apple’s ownership....

In a new Apple Newsroom report, the company has shared how a group of ten students from Hollywood High School were able to create short films on tight budgets with Apple products. The students worked alongside creative professionals and Apple retail experts in a month-long film-making project. Apple also says that it worked with two other independent movie studios, We Make Movies and Mobile Film Classroom. During a two-week long post-production period, the students met with special guests and mentors from around the industry who gave them critical feedback on their work....

In a rare Q&A with the Evening Standard‘s Mark Prigg from the firm’s headquarters, Apple’s design guru talks about Apple’s design process and of course the competition. When asked what made design different at Apple, Ive responded: A: We struggle with the right words to describe the design process at Apple, but it is very much about designing and prototyping and making. When you separate those, I think the final result suffers....

Today we find out, that on December 8, 2009, the US Patent & Trademark Office published Apple’s new trademark application for Think Different under application 77882684. Apple’s application makes note that Think Different was used as early as September 28, 1997. In 1997 there wasn’t an iPod and this may be one of the main reasons for Apple’s new trademark application for Think Different. However, Apple’s International Classification 009 now covers the iPod under MP3 audio players in addition to generically covering “Portable and handheld digital electronic devices” so as to cover any future tablet Apple may be contemplating in the future....

Yesterday, we reported that the latest iOS 8.2 beta reveals that an Apple Watch application for the iPhone is in the works. Now, we have some more details. Within Apple, the application is currently called the Apple Watch “Companion” app for iPhone. This application manages settings for Apple Watch applications, as well as settings for iPhone/Watch interactivity. The Companion app’s settings reveal some novel new functions that are coming to the Apple Watch....

As the DCEU prepares to dive into Aquaman, it looks like the stars are taking a break from pre-production to soak up some of the Australian sunshine. Jason Momoa and Patrick Wilson’s onscreen characters may be at odds when Aquaman comes to theaters in 2018, but for now, they look like they are best of friends. Momoa and Wilson are playing arch-enemies in James Wan’s underwater DCEU adventure, with Wilson set to portray Orm the Ocean Master, one of Aquaman’s (Momoa) most formidable enemies....
